Amazing Watch   01-24-08

This is a sweet deal. My friend was bragging about his $700 Tissot watch, and then I asked him, does it have an altimeter? Does it have a Barometer? What about a timer/stopwatch? Light? Thermometer? He said no to all three… It has large easy to read numbers, good durable materials. It has a light that is kind of dim, but still serves its purpose. Of course to use the thermometer, you have to take it off your wrist for a few minutes. Band is easy to adjust, and still comfortable (I have small wrists). Truth is, not many outdoors watches have all of these in one package. I have gotten all sorts of compliments on this one.

Great bundle   02-20-08

Have to say is my first altimeter watch i owned but it was put to the test on freezing temperatures for 2 days ranging from ( -17 to -5 max C it was attached to my backpack shoulder belt ) and it worked like a charm , the altimeter worked perfect the barometer had an minute difference (compared the pressure with a meteorological station reading and it was off by 1.8 mbar ) the display is great large easy to read and materials seem to be sturdy. The compass is a great asset too just would be nice to stay bit more on then to go into standby mode after a short period . A thumbs up for a very good price and a wide range of features .

Suprisingly great product..   02-26-08

Just picked this watch up on SAC. I have been in the market for an altimeter watch for some time now. I figured I didn't have much to lose on a $61 price tag. So far I am surprisingly impressed with both the functionality and seeming durability of this little gem. It seems to have all the functionality of my buddies Suunto and designed in a user friendly manner. Since initial set-up (correct time, barometric P, etc), I have checked its' accuracy against several sources, the barometer as stated above is within 2 mBar consistantly, and the elevation within 30 feet or so. The thermometer like all similarly designed watches detects body heat, I realized that it is fairly safe to subtract 10-12 degrees F to get the correct temperature while the watch is on. I haven't had the watch long enough or put it through and outing that will truly test it, so I can only give 4/5 stars. I believe that it will prove to be a 5 star product!!

This thing is huge   06-15-08

Nice features but too big for me to wear normally. The body is almost 2" in diameter. It makes me look like a little kid wearing a grown-up's watch. Much bigger than my old Casio Altimeter watch. You need to have larger than average arms to wear this every day. If I was a huge guy I might give this 5 stars.

Decent watch for the price   05-23-08
Rhyno (1): rating
This is a decent watch for the price. I have taken it to Hawaii on a plane, and the watch gets pretty upset when you travel. With the differences in pressure in the cabin of the plane, the watch gets very confused. I realize this is normal, but it's a pain in the butt to reset it. The large display is nice for viewing all the different features. However, the buttons don't work all the time and the watch has even "crashed" twice since I've owned it. I had to pull out the battery and reset the watch when this happens. Maybe my watch specifically is not functioning correctly. Get a Suunto if you have the bucks.

highgear=poor quality   05-11-08

I don't understand what it is with this brand but we've had nothing but bad luck. I got the Terratech for my husband and after just a week of light use around the house, he noticed a huge scratch over the face (which I think is made of plastic rather than glass). Exchanged it for the pricier Alterra model which fell apart during our overseas trip, after receiving it only two weeks prior. Would never buy highgear products again as a result of back-to-back bad experiences.

A Good, Intuitive Watch   03-18-08
Jeff Holt (1): rating
For a feature loaded watch the Terra Tech is surprisingly easy to use. The large, highly visible numbers are nice on older eyes, or for those times when a quick glance is all you can afford. The altimeter and compass appear reasonably accurate, though I am not sure I would consider either one to be navigation quality. The barometer and the weather prediction feature function very well. The major drawback is the limited durability of the outer surfaces, which scratch and scuff all too easily.
