Wonderful Craftsmanship and Quality BUT the Sandal is Always Adjusting!   08-03-07
TMNelson (1): rating
I bought the Bluebell color and was pleasantly surprised by the color, craftsmanship and unique quality of the straps and footbed. Truly unique and unlike any sandal/shoe. However when I first adjusted the straps, I thought I would be set but I was sadly mistaken. This sandal I would say isn't really made for people with "high insteps/high arches" as there isn't really isn't enough material for the strap to cover the foot. The toe becomes strangulated then; with red marks and feels like it's cutting in. It's awful for the first 2-3 weeks of possession of the sandal but the material does eventually accommodate to your foot but when it's hot & humid and the feet swell there isn't much room to spare. ZX/1 is better fit if you don't like the toe option as it strangulates it a bit if you have a bit of a wider foot or higher instep/arch. Overall, I love the shoe but it took a long time for the shoe to adjust and I debated on returning. Just hold out and the shoe will accommodate to you eventually. I hope this helps!

My Big Toe Can't Breathe!   07-24-07
holly (1): rating
The soles are grippy, the straps are adjustable, the bed is comfortable, sweat isn't a problem because it's all fresh air, and they do well on land and sea, but after weeks of walking in England and Spain, it seems like I adjust, and then readjust, and readjust all of the time to keep the straps from strangling my big toe!!! The poor toesies keep turning red. Maybe next time i'll get the ZX/1!

great!   08-15-07
shredbunnies.homestead.com (437): rating
Love love love Chacos. It took me a while to really get used to the toe strap idea. But the toe strap really offers extra support when using these for hiking. I have had to boulder up faces in these to get to the routes I am climbing. The rubber on these have not failed me or gotten me hurt. When hiking out of climbing areas, the rubber is super sticky on rocks, and crossing rivers they grip the rocks also. Great shoe and they give you the best tan lines EVER! Sizing: I wear a size 7 1/2-8 in most shoes. These I wear a size 8

Love, Love Love these sandals   06-09-07
Steph Parke (50): rating
Disclaimer: I'm a bit of a Chaco junkie, with this being one of six pair I own. The ZX/2, like all the other styles, requires no break-in period. It's comfy right from the start. They're great to hike and paddle in and always look good. I love the new two-strap style!

Really Awesome   09-16-09
cc_tracky (0): rating
Been Using these shoes for over a year and they're still really nice. Used them for wading and backpacking and they worked perfectly. Only thing I found a problem with is the double straps. They are hard to adjust. I have gotten sand in them and it's impossible to get it back out, which is also probably why they are hard to adjust. In the end though I am glad I bought them. I normally wear a 9.5 shoe and I bought a 9. Fit nice.

Great if you want a break-in period of two years   02-10-09
R & J Schoonveld (35): rating
I have had three different pairs of chacos and this style in the savory color were the last pair I purchased and then returned. I think I'm in the minority, but these sandals are tight, uncomfortable and take way too long to break in. Plus, I like the old style Colorado sole which was better in the water and more lightweight than the Unaweep. I have to admit, these look great, and I like wearing socks with them in the evening when camping, but it's not worth the pain. My first pair was donated to me by a friend, already broken in, and I have unsuccessfully been chasing my dream of another pair of comfy chacos. No more!

Great versatile shoes   07-10-08
tsjoneslobo (1): rating
I love these shoes! Currently training for a half marathon and love to slip into the chacos after a run. Hike in them all the time and can wear them with jeans, shorts and skirts. Definitely understand how the straps work, the box comes with great instructions on how to use them. I love these shoes, great support in walking. Shipped extremely fast, figured I would be waiting for awhile, came only a few days after I ordered.

After years.   10-20-09
Samantha Glaes (10): rating
After years of chewing through Teva's as a river guide, Chacos were a blessing. They grip well and are comfortable. No velcro means less chance of fungus. Put them through the dishwasher (minus dishes) to clean. The double straps give more adjustment options but you also have to adjust more often. Chaco has one of the best warranty programs in the business.

Daughter loves them!   10-05-09

Bought the brown sandals for my daughter for her birthday. When she got them adjusted right, she absolutely loves them! The brown was a good choice as they are very neutral and go with all different outfits. Per her comments they are extremely comfortable.

Good for me   08-26-09
Katelin (0): rating
I've had the sandals about a month now and while I don't do a lot of backpacking, canoeing or hiking in the mountains (I live in Kansas). I do have 2 young kids and have found the shoes great for everyday activities and for wearing at the lake in the water. We are pretty active and the only downside to these shoes is that they take a little longer to slip on than my flip flops, but of course, they actually STAY ON, so the time it takes to put them on is to be expected. Also, it took me a few days to get the straps adjusted right. There's just a bit of a learning curve and I found that they are comfortable with the toe strap a little looser than the middle and back strap. I keep the middle strap the tightest and that seems to work well for me. These are my favorite shoes now and I am looking forward to wearing them during the hot (hotter) months for years to come!

Meh.   08-14-09
Dzenifr (6): rating
I bought these on recommendation from my boyfriend at the time. They looked cool and have great arch support, so I figured it'd work out. Alas, they are not the sandal for me. The soles are hard and the heel was really uncomfortable. Meaning, my heel was sore at the end of the day from wearing these. I'm not sure if it's just because the sole rises up on both sides of the heel or what, but they're mighty uncomfortable for my foot. The arch support is great though. The straps are fun to play with, but they do have to be adjusted every time you put them on because my big toe ends up getting bothered. Good luck with them though. He loves his Chacos; I just wish mine had worked out.

Good, but takes some adjusting   08-14-09
k99js06 (2): rating
I'm a LONG time Chaco fan/proselytizer, and was excited to give this strappy, non-flip-flop shoe a try. It fits true to size, length-wise (I weer a 9 in these and the Chaco flip-flops), and is OH so comfortable and supportive for my high-arched feet. They're great for walking and hiking (and river-fording), but for standing (at concerts, for example), I've had some issues. As my feet swell up, the strap around the toe becomes very tight. Maybe I have a bigger big toe than average, but I do find myself manually yanking the straps on a regular basis so that they're more generous in the big-toe area--they slip/tighten over the course of the day. I'm still a fan, but these are taking some getting used to and might not be a good long-term shoe for me. The z/2 that doesn't have the toe strap might be a better option for people who worry about the toe-strap tightening issue.

Big toe strangled   06-22-09
aye3102152 (0): rating
I just paid $95 for these sandals that are supposed to be so great, and after an hour of wear they completely strangled my big toe and cut right into my foot. the straps are adjustable but won't stay in place once adjusted. When you lift your heel to step it pulls the strap tighter on your toe so you have to keep stopping and adjusting. I'm considering trying the Zx1 with just one strap but I fear it will be the same thing. PLUS! I ordered them for a rafting trip form backcountry.com and the night they were supposed to arrive backcountry's shipping room sent me 50lbs of "Minority Business Review" magazine and no sandals. I ahd to buy them later from a shop.

So far, so good.   06-19-09
Toni Albers (0): rating
I have been canoeing and kayaking and spending time in a rocky river for many years, but this is my first pair of Chacos. They were tight around my toes for the first few times I wore them... and loose around the ankle. I finally took the time to adjust them properly before I went out on a 24 mile kayak trip and they were comfortable all day. I have worn them to town for shopping once or twice, too. So far, I like them and as time goes on I am sure they will be my favorites in the summer. I would recommend them to anyone who spends time in and out of the water.

Prevent Toe Strangle!!   06-02-09
bot3125564 (1): rating
Hey, little suggestion if you find your straps "slipping". Set the straps up so they are comfortable on your feet...go to a sandy stream or river bank...let the sand, mud, or whatever cover your feet and chacos. The sediment will work its way into the strap slides in the shoe and "lock" them into place. Worked on all 4 pairs of mine!

I've had these for a year and a half now. They made it through a couple weeks at lake powell, a month of backpacking around asia and a couple hiking trips. You wouldn't even know by looking at them. The tread is perfect. They are so comfortable and work great even on slick rocks.

I couldn't live without them   04-05-09
Jackie Bronw (1): rating
I have had plantar fascitis for over ten years. It was so bad I, as a young and trim person, had to use a scooter to get around. The very expensive orthodics did not work. Since I found Chaco's I have been out of pain since. I own 10 pair right now, every color for every outfit. I have to even wear them in the winter for regular shoes are so painful. I am now stock piling them for the future in fear of them going out of style for I will have to wear them for the rest of my life. Go Chaco! Jackie

Chacos!!   01-29-09
Sam (1): rating
I had heard a ton of hype about these shoes...from comfort to unbelieveable customer service and repairs. I knew I had to try them out. So after ordering my shoes and receiving them I promptly put them on, I admit that they were slightly uncomfortable, the toe straps lessened the blood flow to my toes and I began to worry. But after wearing them more often the straps loosened and no longer cut off blood flow. I would highly recommend these shoes to everybody. Even if you have high arches, they help. Be patient with them.

Straps like to slide   12-04-08
Amber Vester (31): rating
This is my second pair and of this same style and I can't seem to get these straps to stop sliding. I either have to leave the strap very loose at the ankle or it cinches up on my toe. Also these are narrow, I like my other pair that is a size smaller in a wide. I'm hoping that with some more wear the strap will start to stay in place better.

as a high school student with no steady income, these shoes were a little more pricey than my average flip flops(YAY REEF'S!!),but they are totally worth the price of two pairs of REEF'S mainly because they go ANYWHERE you do and go there well. they are sturdy, yet light and supportive without being confining like most shoes. you get it all with these sandals so don't wait, get them:)

Solid Sandal   09-24-08
moni.love2376657 (1): rating
These are a hearty pair of sandals. I was looking for a good pair to wear instead of flip flops while biking. The straps do take a while to adjust though. I have taken a break trying to do that now that fall weather is creeping in. I'm confident that the sandals will be great once the strap adjustment is done.

ADORABLE!!! And makes you feel like your wearing someting safe for both your feet and your back. I've had a history of wearing lots of high heels and flip flops, after a major back surgery with a ruptured disc I've been looking for an attractive looking but "good for you" pair of shoes to wear during the summer. They look good with shorts, capris, & jeans. Love them-love them-love them!!!!

Go for it   08-22-08
thielet100138491 (14): rating
I tried these on in the store and found that some pairs of these shoes are very stiff, which makes it very difficult to adjust the straps. Luckily, the pair that I received from Backcountry did not have this problem and they were very easy to adjust. Once you have them just right, they pretty much stay that way and you don't have to keep readjusting them, as other reviewers seem to say that you do. I am very happy with these sandals and personally I would highly recommend them for walking around town, doing yard work, river adventures, etc. Super comfortable and a great price right now. Also, the double straps are much more attractive and feminine than the single strap.

Love the shoes, definitely worth the sale price!   08-21-08
green_suzanne2319335 (1): rating
Like the previous poster, I LOVE these shoes. They look great, and because of Chaco's adjustable straps, the fit is perfect no matter what your foot shape. I shopped around for 2 weeks before I found them at this price. I really hated to spend the full $95 price, and I'm really not sure they are worth all that. But they are definitely worth the sale price. Excellent shoes!

Great Shoes! Poor Pricing!   08-19-08

I ordered the shoes to go to Bear Lake, UT. They were wonderful! In the water, boat, dirt, hiking, biking all of it. However I was not happy to see the next week they went on sale from $95.00 to $66.00, I would have ordered a 2nd pair however my money was spent on just one pair. Love the shoes, hate the price!

It took me awhile to get the adjustment right (OK I did not read the directions right away). Once I got them adjusted they were great and I love them. Are they useful when cliff jumping?   08-07-08
itsnotworking2297028 (1): rating
Yes! I bought these shoes with the intent of their being VERY versatile. I've used them, and loved them, for playing ultimate frisbee, as well as for climbing on wet rocks, without fear of losing my footing, after jumping off a cliff into a lake. They also dried really quickly, which is a big plus. One last bonus is that they leave really cool tan lines on your feet. If you leave the straps loose enough you can get them on and off pretty quickly and they are really comfortable to wear a little on the looser side.

These sandals were great to hike in. and they look good too. My only advice is to make sure those straps fit snugly to prevent your foot from sliding around too much, especially going down hill. i made that mistake and got some not so fun blisters on my arches.

this chaco sandal is just wonderful. i see that many have complained about the straps, but i think that's because a lot of people aren't aware of how to adjust them. you have to take some time to get these right from the get go, but once you do that, you're all set! the arch support on these is great for me, and i find them really stable for various sporting endeavors. plus, the style is perfect for me. i think the straps on this model are more feminine and pretty than some of the other chaco offerings--especially on my larger size feet. as for sizing, i am an 8.5-9 in street shoes, and i ordered a 9. i would say my feet are a little on the narrow side.

ZX/2 Chaco Unaweep   09-16-06
dtreview (1): rating
I ordered the Chaco Unaweep sandal from this site over the phone, and the service was fast and pleasant....and free shipping! I like these sandals, but I have to admit I don't feel much difference in them compared to my Merrell Python sandals. In fact, it takes a little longer to get into them because of the toe loop and the surface of the footbed is a little rougher than the Python. The sole on the Chaco looks thicker than the sole on the Merrell, but it feels the same to me. The Unaweep definitely looks prettier though. I like the split straps and it isn't so "duck footed" on the front. I've heard from other wearers they really do last forever.

I have been a diehard Reef flip-flop fan for years, but I needed something with a back strap to make keeping up with my two-year-old easier. I love these sandals! They are very comfortable and provide excellent arch and heel support. Well worth the money!

Chaco shoe return   08-29-07

The shoes looked great, but the straps were too tight. They were simply uncomfortable.

Still a Teva girl   08-04-08

Every sales person I met really pushed the Chacos. I tried on several pairs. I liked the color of these so I ordered them. The bottom line is Chacos take longer to put on than Tevas (important when chasing a toddler). Chacos are much heavier than Tevas. The Chaco interior foot bed is much rougher than Tevas. I was looking for a pair of sandals to replace the Tevas I've had for 4 years (and worn almost every day). I've worn Tevas since 1991. The local outdoor store owner that I finally purchased my new Tevas from was impressed with how they had lasted for 4 years. She too pushed the Chaco (what sort of commission are they offering?) but agreed that the Teva is more comfortable, less heavy, and faster (and LESS EXPENSIVE). I'm very happy with my new Tevas (the Terra-Fi 2) and I'll be returning the Chacos.
