Hands down best board   11-12-08
Chris Heckman (3): rating
Hands down this is one of the best boards of all time. It just does everything right besides ride switch perfectly, however i ride switch on it all the time. If you like cranking turns, riding with serious speed, and just slashing the mountain in general this board is for you. I have one myself and have been riding it for a long time, and i have also ridden the newer models. ICS is a great system and works for many reasons, if you have the money lay down the cash and get the bindings to match this board. You WONT be disappointed, and if u are... your probably using it wrong!?

AWESOME! ICS SYSTEM IS SICK!   01-20-09
wes2811511 (2): rating
All I have to say is that the ICS system ROCKS!!! I will never go back! The flex/control you get out of the ICS/EST set up is amazing! Complete control of your board. The Custom X is the best all mountain board I have ever ridden. It will take on anything, half pipe jumps, powder, back country,etc... I use this board with the Burton EST Cartels and I had no problems what so ever. LOVE IT!! I WANT TO BOARD EVERYDAY!!!!!!!! Make sure you get it on sale.

solid ride   12-16-08
chr2560036 (1): rating
Nothing say intense shredding and fluid carves like a custom x. It will slice a sheet of ice with its rigid edges, whip down a groomer, or float effortlessly on the fresh pow. Riding this thing is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.

my quiver destroyer   12-08-08
Stashquatch (10): rating
if I have no idea what the conditions are going to be like at the hill, I ride this board. It can do everything, and do it well. I prefer to ride it at high speed in pursuit of fresh snow, but it also kills on the groomers and gets in the air well if you feel like hitting some jumps. I wouldn't slide a ton of rails or boxes on it - the stainless steel edges are sharp as hell and it's pretty stiff...more ideal for holding turns in any kind of snow at any speed. The base is retarded fast on this thing, and it's also crazy light. ICS is the bomb.... limitations of pre-set stance positions are a thing of the past. Only negative thing is the topsheet scratches kind of easily, but I could give a crap about that, honestly. It rides awesome anywhere on the entire mountain, from jumps to trees to groomers to bowls to the pipe, and that's all I care about.

Everything you need   03-31-09
cust0m (7): rating
This board is by far my nicest board. It is one of the greatest board I've ever ridden down hill. It's a directional twin, so it's ok if your like to throw a 1 or 5 and it's light weight makes spins easy. The one thing I won't do on this board is a rail. The edges are just to sharp and the entire board way to stiff. Still, great board in all other conditions, unless of course you're looking to hit the park.

The Board of All Boards   03-23-09
Steve04R1 (1): rating
If you're looking for the best all mountain board, look no further. I picked up the 168, and a Pair of C02 Est's. I've never felt more comfortable on a mountain. I can't believe how this board reacts to your movement. I rode Mammoth this past weekend, they got 16 inches of fresh pow. This board will kill everything you put it on. I wouldn't hesitate buying this setup again. It is pricey, but honestly worth every cent. FIND A SALE! You wont be sorry.

STOKED!   04-29-09
ylue&bellow (65): rating
I took a few runs on my friends 07 Custom X and thats basically all i needed to convince me to buy my own. Egde hold and stibilty were great, like any stiff board...but what really impressed me was the fluidness and ease of carving, super smooth ride and easy to initaite turns. when i went off a relativly small natural, with a just a small pop i launched into the air so high that it caught me off guard!...luckly this thing's flex its dialed perfect so that the landing was smooth and stable. Awesome ride...picked up the 08 156 and Cartel EST's a few days ago and saved near 550 bucks as opposed to buying next year (CX is going to be 730 next year) not to mention the ICS system super versatile and adjustments are presice, fast, easy, and exact to 1 or 2 milimeters in every direction, and angles can be changed by 1 degree!...so grab this awesome ride at a great price while you can!...but if you have to pay full price its worth it anyway, cuz it just keeps gettin better.

great board.......better backcountry warranty!   03-13-09
wnh1113 (8): rating
to avi2548935, backcountry's warranty is better than that of burton's, return the board to backcountry and they will hook you up with a new one. now, next year, 5-years from now! what is better than that?!?! anyways, i bought this board and also have an 08 custom in my arsenal. this board destroys the custom in all mountain ability. way faster, way stiffer, cuts through ice and holds an edge. the est system is superior in every way, and i hope burton pushes all their boards in this direction. i won't try the park with it, that's why i have the custom. paired with some 09 triads you will not be disappointed with this board.

More fun than the Vapor   04-22-09
Eric Tee (5): rating
I used the Burton Vapor for a week, then got bored of it so I decided to try the Custom X. This board does it all, powder, staying alive on ice, park, pipe, jumps, and probably jibs and rails too (I haven't tried because I don't want to mess up my new favorite board!). The Custom X is pretty stiff though so don't expect to use it to spread butter, but it has amazing pop. The addition of the ICS system is great, carry a small screw driver when using this board and you'll never want to leave the mountain.

All mountain ripper   04-06-09
PK Thunder (13): rating
There is pretty much nothing that will beat the edge to edge quickness of the CX. The response is so lively and instantaneous you'll just laugh as you mach carve your way down. Great pop on both ends. The deck has a great lively flex but it's definitely on the stiffer end of things, so it would be best to stay away if you're in the beginning stages. This deck rarely changes much year-to-year, so pick this one up at a discount and shred it next year.

Burton Custom X   03-23-09
Jonathan Apaloo (1): rating
Already had an 'X' which was a little old and abused so went for this years new Custom X. Moved down from a 164 to a 160 as I've lost some 'timber'! Its a lively board at this length for the type of all mountain and off piste riding I do ... ICS gives so many stance options for different riders and to suit the conditions ... I had a massively wide stance for the first couple of days which produced some awesome bails in fresh powder, but its pretty easy to get the adjustment right. Excellent ride which suits my aggressive full speed style. GET SOME!!!

Screwed   09-20-09
Matt Paris (3): rating
Don't Lose any of the screws. My Bindings blew up because I was not using the EST binding and I lost one of the contact screws during the crash. I thought I could buy just the one screw that I needed. I came to find out that this one little screw would cost me at $50 because I would have to buy the whole ICS hardware system- Burton would not supply me or any of the shops with this one little screw.

Awesome All Mtn Board   08-12-09
Asian Dave (0): rating
I love this board! I think this is a great all mountain board. Holds and edge well and has a nice stiff flex to it. Only down fall I'd say is that I wouldn't hit any boxes or rails w/ it. It's a bit pricey to want to put dings in your board.

Best burton board but...   04-14-09
silas shirley (6): rating
I rode my custom x for three hard seasons! I loved the board and it was definitely the best burton board for all mountain riding. It was time for a new board this year and I was going to get another custom x but decided to demo a never summer premier f1. After one day of riding the NS, I was sold. I bought the premier, and probably will never buy another burton board again. So the custom x was great....but the NS rides better, and has a 3 year warranty!

great board!    03-31-09
Big3017617 (1): rating
I've used this board all season paired with the cartel est bindings (which dominate too!) and it performs well in every situation, be it pow up the waist or an icy trail the custom X tears through it. Only one slight problem is the set screws come loose from time to time and it has caused me to wreck a few times, and the top sheet is quite visibly chipped after one season

You don't always get what you pay for   03-11-09
avi2548935 (1): rating
Luckily I got a sick deal on my Custom X, but mine isn't even 2 years old, I have a cracked top sheet underneath my binding in a small spot that was determined to be "impact damage" by Burton, within the first month I got it back from them I cracked 2 edges and they both looked minor, but water started to seep in the edge and started pushing the base out. Long story short, you don't always get what you pay for and I'm its unfortunate I'm only going to get 2 seasons out of my Custom X. It's a great board except I thought it would be a bit more durable and I am disappointed about Burton not holding their end of the Warranty

Why Are Burton 25% More Expensive   05-05-09
wil (0): rating
Because you are paying for the constant R&D that raises the standard of board manufacturing world wide.If Burton weren't doing it the whole game would be stagnent. Because you can buy a burton board and if you have problems take to any dealer located in every country town on the planet with a ski filed and have spare parts or new board replaced on your doorstep within 2 days. If I am on holidays somewhere that 25% is my insurance, Nitro can't do that or many other manufacturers offer this sort of support.

Overpriced!!!   01-13-09
Graham (1): rating
I don't understand why people pay 25% more for Burton boards, yes they are good but no better than other top manufacturers. The Nitro Blacklight and K2 Zeppelin are better than the Custom X in my opinion and they are 25% cheaper, they also have better graphics - Custom X is about the dullest board out there.
