Snapped Lace 12-07-07
No Place Like Boston Mills

The third or fourth time I tried to tighten the speed lacing system on the right boot I heard a "snap." I was left with a broken, black lace held together by frayed, white nylon, or whatever the insides of those black laces are made of. I still gave it three stars 'cause it is as stiff as advertised. I like Burton's stuff, but I'm starting to question the durability. I've also got an '07-08 Custom X. I've used it twice, both times in Mammoth, CA over Thanksgiving weekend. Conditions weren't ideal, but I've got a small gouge in the fragile-looking topsheet on the heelside edge. There were some stray rocks jutting out of the thin snow base, so maybe it was my fault. It does make me wonder, though . . .

| Awesome boots! Exactly what I was looking for! Great rigidity for better board control in tight stuff. The boots transfer the energy right into the legs and relax the ankles. Appreciated in the Cascades concrete snow... They are a little narrow though.

Super Stiff 11-28-07

This boot is very stiff. Almost as stiff as a ski boot. Well designed and the liner is very comfortable but it will take some time to break in. Not so bad with forward motions, but it took me awhile to get it to a comfortable side to side flex.

SNAPPED LACE NUMERO DOS 01-15-08

Yes, I snapped the laces after 12 days. What's more disappointing is that these boots seem to completely hurt my feet on the outside fronts I have never had this happen with any other snowboard boots or any footwear for that matter. No heat molding. Without heat molding, you have to break these in, but by the time they're broken in, the laces snap. Disappointing. I have bought other boots and I am sending these back to Burton. Yes, these things are the stiffest things out there. I am an expert and could handle them, but these are not beginner or even intermediate boots in my opinion. I am going with something a bit softer that's more comfortable.

Do what they say they DO 12-21-07

Being a big mountain rider I love these boots. Just like they say they are stiff I ride them in the morning then switch into some looser boots (like the DC judge) when the good lines are gone. They are not made for the park they are made for people who want direct contact with the board and want no free movement. I wear a size 14 but got them in a 13 (cause that’s all they had) and they are perfect they will size to your feet and you want them really tight. These are not for people who don’t like steep lines or deep powder. They are nice for hiking and feet stay warm all the time. If your looking for a stiff boot you cant get any better then this!

Great, very stiff boots. I freeride, mostly in Hemsedal Norway, they should help me keep clear of the trees in "Rubber forest". I can´t wait to try them on.

I know some people say these boots are WAYYY too stiff, but look at what you are investing your money into when you choose the DRIVERS. I have a ankle problem so I looked for the stiffest boot i could find. The Drivers were the first I had in mind and found little success elsewhere. They ARE stiff as hell but the performance is UNMATCHED!!! If you want stiff these are what you need

Burton Driver-X Snowboard Boot - Mens 03-17-08

I have been riding Burton Ion boots for the last several years, and was very happy with them. This year, I bought a Lib Technologies TRS Magne-Traction 167 board, and changed my angles to 60 on the front, and 40 on the back. The Ions just did not have the side-to-side ankle response that I needed. I replaced them with new Burton Driver-X boots, and the side-to-side response, and front-to-back response, is immediate. I am riding better than ever with these new boots. Getting in and out of the boots with Burton's side-pull lacing system is so nice. Tightening the laces is so easy that I don't even take off my gloves. I now find myself pulling them tight before each run. It has been like switching to power steering.

DRIVER X for Wide Flat Feet 03-05-08

These are NOT for everyone. In fact, for those who have wide flat feet Driver would hurt you. I've tried expand the sixth toes part a bit but did not work that much. As far as stiffness goes, they are great for backcountry riding and have pretty good traction while hiking uphill. One more thing is that the liner itself is NOT great, so I'd say... ditch them and replace to softer version of Intuition Liners. Overall, for ones with narrow long feet and would love to go off-piste, these are one of the best on the market. But, again NOT for everyone.
