Backcountry.com Siphon Primaloft Hooded Jacket - Women's
You dawn patrol before work, hit the trail in the afternoon, and find solitude in the wilderness. We know. We're out there, too. So when it came to developing our own line of outdoor apparel and equipment, we didn't think like a company, we thought like the obsessive outdoor addicts that we are. We tapped into our collective experience, expertise, and passion. We tested, tested, and tested some more. The result? A line of premium gear that is as good or better than anything else out there, and we priced it low because it seemed like the right thing to do. Hit it hard, love it, break it. If you don't, we will.

Good fit, lightweight and warm   01-26-09
Jackie V (3): rating
I love this jacket. It's a great alternative to a fleece (light rain and snow roll right off, stands up to light wind, dog hair doesn't congregate on the surface, etc.) for those cooler but not frigid temps in the fall/early winter here in New England. It's definitely not as warm down, so don't confuse this mid-layer jacket with a heavily insulated winter coat. I found the fit to be great - I'm a slim/average 5'8 with long limbs and a shorter torso, so sleeve length is almost always a problem for me, but the medium was a great fit for me.

Women's Siphon   11-17-08
kroy (7): rating
I just received this jacket and I love it! It is VERY lightweight, warm and soft. I was very happy with my purchase and would love to have it in another color. If you are looked for a reasonably priced, quality, warm, lightweight jacket, I would definitely consider this one.

Great jacket   02-02-09
Lauren (3): rating
I have been very pleased with this jacket! The synthetic down-like material is great--very warm, no itch or allergy worries, and it compacts nicely for packing around. The fit is great, too. Comes in a bit at the waist for a feminine look, good arm and torso length, true to size (I am 5'4", 140 pounds, and got a medium that fits perfectly). On super cold days, it also worked well to layer a heavy-weight fleece underneath. Nice full hood and soft, lined pockets. I got the cream color, which looks great and seems to clean up well so far. I love it!

Insulator Jackets   01-12-09
sky bosworth (11): rating
The selling point of this jacket: Packability. The siphon is an insulator jacket, and is meant to provide serious warmth in a clinch. Primaloft is made to be super lighweight, and rip-stop nylon is respective to that. This jacket is a spin-off of the Cloudveil Enclosure Hoody, and they are BOTH super great jackets. The Cloudveil has a bit more loft, but both are 100 g fill primaloft with nylon. This is a super all around jacket, and is quite water resistant. It is treatable with a spray on DWR anytime for care and water resistance. This jacket will suit you nicely if you dont like that puffy look. Again, this is a very successful hybrid jacket. Its meant to pack tight in your backpack on a winter trek, and to be a comfortable casual piece, and this is only possible with the primaloft. I wear the insulators ( Enclosure and Siphon) around town, and throw them under a hardshell waterproof/windproof if i want to get in the sub zero mercury. Get this jacket, or if you have muchos dineros, consider the Enclosure by Cloudveil.

nearly perfect   12-29-08
ire2541502 (1): rating
this is a great jacket with a great fit. it's just as warm as any down jacket i have & it's much lighter & way less puffy. my only complaint is that it pills in the armpits which is a bummer. fyi- i usually wear a large, but wear an xl in this jacket. too bad there isn't a small interior pocket in it... otherwise it's nearly perfect & i'm a total gearhead!

I LOVE it!   11-28-08
chickincanada (48): rating
I love this jacket. I bought the backcountry.com wool jacket last year and absolutely love that one. The Siphon is cut more or less the same (this one's a tad shorter in the back than the wool). For a jacket that's almost paper-thin, it keeps me very warm. It's also super packable, so I can shove it in my backpack and put it on when it starts raining. The bonus is the fabric - I was walking the other day from brunch, and I got splattered by a bird and it wiped right off! The sizing is probably slightly smaller than true, but I love how it fits me, it's very fitted and I get compliments every time I wear it. People recognize the quality even if they may not recognize the goat - at least not just yet! I absolutely love both my backcountry.com jackets, I alternate just so I won't neglect one!

Best coat ever.   02-02-09
Alleson (2): rating
I am always cold. Several years ago my boyfriend got a primaloft coat and for years I shivered in fleece while he rallied through anything. This coat is the answer to my prayers. I am 6 1 and this coat is not only long enough -- the hood fits my bongo head and tall neck comfortably. I usually buy a large, bought the XL in this and still fits slim. I've been wearing it all this frigid midwestern winter under my rain coat in lieu of a proper winter coat and its been just fine. It's so slim fitting that I wear it to work under my super fancy wool top coat to work and over my suit. I love it, love it, love. The green is flattering, a really nice shade. I found the merlot to be kind of blah, so returned it.

Cute Jacket   01-07-09
cowboes5100140121 (4): rating
I bought this jacket in Dec. (Merlot color) but unfortunately I had to return it. I ordered a size small, and the fit was great, but the sleeves were too short for my liking. I think a medium would be better. I should mention that the Merlot color does have a red tint to it. A cute jacket and I wished it would've worked out.

Great Present   12-29-08

Got one of these for my girlfriend and she wears it everywhere. At first she thought it was too light-weight but it's way warmer than she thought. She's 5'9" and athletic, medium fits her perfectly. Cute, too.

excellent buy   12-15-08

I purchased this coat for myself and it caused a serious jealousy issue with the old lady. I bought her this coat in cream and she's had a smile on her face ever since. It's nice and light but yet keeps you completely warm. In her words "it's like being wrapped up in a down comforter."

I love this jacket!! I have long arms and have a hard time finding sleeves long enough. Fits perfectly! It's almost like this jacket was made for me. It's nice and light weight but warm and cozy. And I love the color- a brown/ maroon color, beautiful.

Love the fit!   12-08-09
opmama (3): rating
I've been struggling to find an XS that fits slim enough (I'm not that tiny, 5'3" and 110 - I wear small in a brand like Icebreaker, for example), but most coats give way too much room for layering, and the arms are too short in the XS's. This one fits really, really well. Great for around town, and weekend snowshoeing too!

Sweet Jacket   11-11-09
Jubilee (0): rating
I got this coat and haven't taken it off since i got it. I love the fit a little longer as I am quite short, therefore it covers my butt. The arms are a tad long due to my height but no real issue. The cold is great for wind protection as well, as does well wicking both inside and out. Wore it the other day in a wet snowstorm, not ideal but it kept me dry and in turn dried out v. quickly. Great coat well worth it!

Bought this for my wife. She ahd to return to size up as she prefers a little more room. Construction looks good and the insulated hood is real plus. Can't really comment on the performance until winter returns.

I live in this jacket. Helped me survive east coast fall and early winter. Also is good in a San Francisco summer. The color is right, the fit is nice. I could not find a more perfect jacket.

Helped Stave Off Hypothermia!   06-19-09
dynamitego1092595 (12): rating
This jacket kept me from freezing during a sleet storm on the top of the cables of Half Dome (along with an Icebreaker thermal top and a Marmot gore-tex jacket). 'Nuff said. It's worth every penny even at full price, but I'm jealous because this is currently on sale for half of what I got it for!

My friend, who is very picky when it comes to buying clothes online, loved this as a gift. The quality is excellent, the looks are nice, and it is easy to pack. Can't go wrong with this.

great coat, minor sizing issue   03-31-09
redsugar51 (2): rating
I went according to the sizing chart on the bust size, and purchased a large. The jacket fit great in the bust (normally a huge problem for me, since I am heavy-chested), but the hips didn't seem to coordinate with the fit of the bust. I sent it back and ordered the XL. The XL fit the same way only a little bigger. There was more room in the hips, but it still fits a little snug in the hips. This jacket is also a lot darker in person than it appears to be online. It looks like a whiteish color online, but is a true beige/cream in person, which I prefer anyways. As far as the jacket goes...I live in Alaska, and this jacket keeps me warm in below zero temps and is a great casual jacket. I have recieved many compliments on how it looks. It is very lightweigt, and easy to wash and care for. I would definitely recommend this coat to others, as long as you ladies keep in mind it seems better suited for gals with more narrow hips.

great and not-so-great   03-08-09
jennalulu423 (1): rating
I LOVE the way this jacket fit, it's packability, and it's all around style. Unfortunately, I had to return it TWICE because after only a week or two, the Primaloft starting coming out in "pills" around the back and under the armpits. I thought it was a flaw in the first one, but it definitely happened twice, so I doubt I got two flawed jackets. Sad.. I really liked this coat : (

Light but short in the arms   02-19-09
spa2749349 (6): rating
I am 5'10" and average size for my height. This jacket was very short in the arms (I ordered a large) and while the color and 'lightweight' specs were nice, it just didn't seem mountain-ready. I returned it.
