Arc'teryx Scorpion Ski Jacket - Men's
Arc’teryx takes their own approach to technical outerwear and climbing gear. Instead of imitating existing designs, Arc’teryx innovates with their own solutions. Narrow seam taping, laminated pockets, welding instead of sewing, and revolutionary WaterTight zippers are hallmarks of this Canadian company. Their distinctive designs won’t be found on the backs of every rock-jock or snow-bro, only on those adventurers that know true quality when they see it.

Great jacket. Also have the Sidewinder AR. I wear the sidewinder on warmer ski days. The Scorpion has slightly more substance, due to the microfleece layer inside (but I would still consider this a shell). Only minor drawback compared to the sidewinder is that the fleece on the sleeves makes it a little bit tougher to get your arms through (more friction). But that's a minor complaint. I like the straight front zipper better than the sidewinder's side zip. Fit and construction are perfect. Hood is awesome over a helmet. If you layer right, you can wear this under pretty much ANY conditions. I've worn it in sub zero wind chill, blizzard snow, freezing rain, etc. Nothing gets through. I considered getting a heavier down-insulated ski jacket for those ultra cold days on top of the mountain, but I've find the Scorpion will do just fine with layers.

I kinda like it...a lot   12-12-08

I will be the first to admit I own a few too many Arcteryx Jackets, but this one is my current fav. Solid construction and great styling bring it all together. This jacket feels bomber. I am not worried when I am bombing through trees that a little branch will reach out and tear it up. The materials are solid and effective. All that being said, I was surprised by the weight. For something as robust as it is, it is not overly heavy. I find it a little long in the torso, but mainly because I am really, really short (5'5"). I would recommend this jacket for mainly resort skiing, if you are looking for something tele/BC/AT related, there are some lighter and more breathable shells out there. Overall, if you are lapping the back bowls and want a jacket that looks good and keeps you climate controlled while doing it, this is for you.

I bought one of these in January 2007. I have to say that I absolutely loved it, that is until it got stolen. I was absolutely gutted. Being in Europe it's nigh-on impossible to get hold of these. I agree about the lack of pocket space, but then again, I've been less fussed about it. I used the jacket as both an everyday item of clothing (it rains a lot in the UK!) and also for both skiing and as a day jacket for yacht sailing. I've found that it works well in both cold and mild conditions, never really overheating. A great jacket and a shame it got nicked.

Heavier high loft fabric accounts for bulky underarms   05-04-09
byrongo (3): rating
With more coverage than the Stingray, the Scorpion is a nice bet for a warmer hardshell. Unfortunately, I've found that due to the heavier, higher loft fabric, that I can feel the sleeves and the pitzips under my arms. Not a problem with the Stingray. This will be updated and reflected in next Fall's line, where they will mix the high and low loft fabrics for better movement. The fit of this coat in the body is definitely roomier than the Ascent line, so choose accordingly.

Great jacket, warm layer inside and still breathable. I am normally using my Sidewinder SV for the the temperatures below 0-degrees C but even then this jacket proofed to be ok. And after riding it for more than week in the strongest conditions, I probably wont change it anymore...

Pretty cool jacket   02-10-09

Overall, a great jacket. I got mine earlier this winter and have used it skiing on the east coast and also on a recent heli-skiing trip in British Columbia. It has kept me warm in all condtions. My only issues with the jacket are that it is a little tight around the arms and back. It would be nice to have a little more room. It would also be nice to have a pocket or two on the front of the jacket for a radio or other items that I might need to quickly get to.

Nice piece of equipment   02-04-09

Just used it for the first time in three consecutive days of warm snowy (i.e. wet lift rides) and it never let a drop of water through. The cut of the jacket is great. Hood fit over the helmet perfectly. Zipper is very easy to operate and reliable. Can't say enough good about this shell.

Tighter than other Arc jackets   10-21-08
ThinkIllGoCanoeing (2): rating
My Theta AR and Fission AR fit great in size medium, but I find this jacket too tight around the armpits. I have a wide upper back, though, but have not experienced this tightness with the other jackets. No comment on performance.

Sick jacket! Fits very true to size. I'm 6'0" and on the thinner side and a medium fets perfect. Great pit zips to keep cool on long spring tours in Crested Butte, and the fleece lining and high collar keep the cold stuff out when making laps on the High Lift. Super waterproof too, which is a must for me. I ordered the Sitka color because it was cheaper and it looks great. Buy one

Mixed feelings   12-16-06
Josh8356 (9): rating
I have owned this jacket for about 3 months now and find that I really like it for some things and will not wear it for others. It is by no means a versatile jacket. I love the material, super water proof, breathable and LIGHT WEIGHT. The fit is excellent, it is long where it needs to be, and tight where it needs to be. I am not a fan of the pockets, or lack there of. I need a jacket that has at least 4 pockets. It is very good for what it is, but with the amount of features available in jackets these days, this just is not keeping up.

Mmmm soft    12-11-06
JOHN GILCHRIST (420): rating
MMM pricy. I have been useing this jacket to tour in and ride in the resorts. It keeps me warm and seems to breath allright. The matterial is soft to the touch and not that loud. Not sure I like micro fleece on the inside durring a pow day I was noticing that snow liked to accumulate on it. I also didn't find the pow skirt too helpful. I would recomend this jacket for more resort skiing and look for something a little more breathable for touring.

I've had my Scorpion for little over a year now and just recently realized why I got this jacket. Basically, I use this jacket traveling/ touring in, out, and between, on recon jaunts, looking for that next adventure. This is the perfect harsh-weather, exploration jacket when you have some down-time, whether you are in the lounge or plotting your route around the fire, and it also reflects the seriousness of your outdoor activities before pulling your "perfect-for-the-job-gear" out.

I know it is early in the season, but I already got my Scorpion jacket. It is beautiful material and it fits like only an Arc'teryx can. I will update my review as soon as the snow flys. But for now I am stoked on this jacket.
