Ice Climbing Packs
This Month's Gear Guru Question:
by Backcountry BobQ. I am looking to buy a new pack for this upcoming ice climbing season. But I don’t want a pack for every different outdoor sport I do. I would like this pack to be good for ice climbing, rock climbing and a daypack. It seems like every major company offers a pack like that now but I have always been a guy who needs to see it before he will buy it. Unfortunately I do not have that option this time around. I was hoping you could lead me down the right path.

Hi Ray,
Black
Diamond has been leading the way in all aspects of climbing
equipment for years, with the exception of a solid pack line - no longer!
This Fall's packs are the best climbing packs I have seen, ever. Simple, lightweight,
but fully functional designs made for climbers, by climbers. Check out the Sphinx
and it's larger alpine climbing brother the Shadow.
I had a chance to test these out last winter and was very impressed to say the
least. They carry weight extremely well and have an unobstructive narrow profile
made for climbing - even in the miriad of awkward stances and positions you
may find yourself in. Great designs from the climbing company you trust. Good
luck and happy climbing!
