Employee Gear Closet: Dave Trenholm

Employee Gear Closet: Dave Trenholm

by Justin Mool

Dave Trenholm, or as he’s known around here, DTRAIN, works as the Merchandise Division Buyer for snowboarding, climbing, and camping. He arrived here a little more than a year ago through—in his words—“hard work, a dash of bro-brah, a pinch of luck, and a heaping spoonful of passion.” Well said, old chap.

DTRAIN rips. In the summer he schools the teenagers at the skatepark, and in the winter he’s out riding first chair at Snowbird and/or snorkeling through Utah’s backcountry. He took a second to fill us in on his snowboard setup for this season.

Rome Design 162
When I am not bashing gates in my speed suit, I like to explore the mountain on this board. This board is actually a twintip designed for natural terrain freestyle/all-mountain riding. It has a good shape and has good response. This animal also may be spotted in the halfpipe or other surprising mountain habitats.

Rome Targa Bindings
These things are made from steel that was mined on Mars. They are super tough, great adjustability, great response without being too stiff. I like the white ones because they are wrapped in newspaper print and give me something to read on the chairlift.

Vans BFB Boots
The BFB are some great mid-stiff lace-up boots that feel like my skate shoes. And they come with agION, so they won’t stink like my skate shoes. Solid boot, good fit, good price, and duh, they’re Vans.

686 Uzi Jacket
I’ll be wearing the slate colorway this season. Super warm jacket that has more storage space then your mom’s Chrysler minivan. Big audio pocket for that second-generation 60GB brick known as an iPod that I lug around.

686 Uzi Pant
These pants actually have a strap for an Uzi … amazing. Midweight pant that has a clean style and angled heel so you don’t slop around the back of your pants in the muddy parking lot. Got the white ones; should be a brownish funk color by the time I am done with them.

DAKINE Mustang Glove
The Mustangs are good lightweight gloves I use all season. Not too bulky so they are optimal for slapping high fives . Buy two pairs and switch up the colorways if you really want to set it off…

Anon Realm Goggles
Anon Realm goggles—great frame with mirrored lens. Comfortable goggle that doesn’t fog. Pretty much all you need. I got the buffet colorway. Yes, it does have some pink on it … don’t be scared.
