On any given day, you can find me on the tram at Snowbird—it’s pretty much my favorite place, with Alta coming in a close second. I went to school at Western State in Gunnison, CO, and graduated with a degree in English literature and creative writing. I used to ski Crested Butte and never skied more than 5 inches of powder until moving to Salt Lake. The deepest snow I’ve ever skied was at Alta; I had to straightline the Backside in the white room in order to not get buried. Now I ski on Spatulas every day of the season. Yes, they work fine on groomers and hard snow. Yes, they are sublime in powder. Yes, we are sold out of them forever.

My kit from top to bottom:

Giro MX Helmet:
I fall down a lot, so this helmet is probably my most important piece of gear. It’s lightweight, it vents well, and you can get all teched out with the audio hookups. I love that it has a visor—I think helmets without visors look weird.

Smith Fuse Regulator Goggles:
I wear the Fleur de Lis version of these goggles. They fit super well with the MX helmet, and I never have fogging issues. The Fuse has a great field of vision, and the platinum mirror lens works well, even in flat-light Wasatch storms.

Salomon Miss Maya Jacket:
In the past, I’ve been a layerer; I was all about stormproof shells and fleece and polypro. But this season, I ditched the system and went for down. This jacket has been perfect for mid-winter tram laps, and riding chairs on stormy days is no problem. The outer material is really tough. The other day I snagged a tree that I feared might rip my sleeve—but there was absolutely no damage. I’m stoked to have a girlier jacket that still performs really well in the big-mountain environment.

Salomon Chick Pant:
The Chick pant not only stands out in a crowd, but it makes your butt look damn good too. The low-rise fit is comfy and the long cut helps the Chick drape well over boots. The stretchy houndstooth material is water and wind resistant; with a light base layer underneath, they’re totally warm enough for riding chairs. I’m 5’7” and about 145lb. I wear a large in the Chick and the Miss Maya. I could wear a medium in the Chick, but I prefer a baggier fit.

I have all three of these Lorpen ski socks. I’m stupidly picky about my feet when I’m skiing. My boots are tiny, and bulky socks kill my feet. The Lorpen’s seamlessness is awesome. These socks are fairly thin but offer excellent insulation. My feet are happy now.
