Running Snowshoes

This Month's Gear Guru Question:

Q. Can you tell me what the best Snowshoe would work for runnning races in terrain ranging from powder to hardpack? Also is there a certain boot that would work good with these? Thanks, Craig.

A. Hi Craig,

My favorite is the Altas Dual Track. This snowshoe is specifically designed with the trail runner in mind and in my opinion, the best on the market.

Atlas also makes a lightweight version which costs a bit more but saves you almost a full pound of weight.

As far as boots go there are a number of good choices, but for cold environs nothing beats the Salomon Snow Storm. For warmer temps try The North Face Pipe Dragon. Both will keep you warm and give you the sensitivity to run in. Good luck - get out there!
