Description of The North Face Freedom Pant - Women's:
Sick of tight, retro-style ski pants? Grab The North Face Women's Freedom Pants. A relaxed, contemporary fit gives you room to move, and the waterproof breathable fabric keeps your legs dry throughout winter storms. Mesh panels in the gaiters work with thigh vents to create full-leg air circulation, so you won't end up with sweat-soaked legs on warm spring ski days. Layer long johns under The North Face Freedom Pants during chilly mid-winter weather. Fully taped seams block moisture, and a cargo pocket on the Freedom shell pants gives you a place to stash your trail map.
Bottom Line: Liberate your legs from tight, uncomfortable ski pants.

Comfortable and great fit for short women 12-19-08
Like the previous poster, I am 5'2" and 150 lbs. These pants fit me perfectly. They are fitted at the waist but do not pinch when you bend down or sit. They have a very tailored look, and the waist is adjustable very easily. The quality of construction is top notch.
The short length fits me; the regular length was too long. Typically when I buy pants that have articulated knees, the knees actually fall in the middle of my shin, so my knees are still very restricted when I bend them. With the shorter length, the knees actually fall to where my knees are, so when I bend them there is no restriction at all.
Even though these are considered a shell, they would be perfectly warm enough on a mildly cold day. They definitely aren't as warm as the insulated version, but they are not a strict shell (i.e. like your shell rain jacket would be). The side vents are easy to access if you become too warm while on the mt. on those bright sunny days.
I highly recommend these pants. They are extremely comfortable and fit great.
Yes, they do run big and thank you North face for gearing your clothing to all women of all shapes and sizes. Large is actually large. Most outdoor companies design clothing for tall slim women. I'm 5'2 and 150. Usually I have to have some sort of alteration done. the Large/short pants fit great and will go bigger in the waist with a simple adjustment. They even make xlarge pants that were way to big for me. I snowboard and like my clothing fairly loose. I also like the fact that the cargo pocket is actually big enough for me to put my hand in. Again, most pockets in womens ski and snowboard clothing are not functional and if it is, you pay a premium. I want functional clothing when I'm out on the slopes, not fashion. Great product!
I ordered these and the Liberation Pants and found the Liberation to be a lot more comfortable. These were too high-waisted for me. Haven't skied in either yet, but this cut didn't work for me.
