Description of The North Face Prism Optimus Jacket - Men's:
The North Face Men's Prism Optimus Jacket uses a combination of 700-fill goose down and PrimaLoft One synthetic insulation to provide versatile warmth in the cold mountains. This combination of materials makes the Prism Optimus Jacket more compressible than synthetic jackets, and it retains warmth better than down if it gets wet. The North Face uses welded baffles to eliminate cold spots and increase compressibility. Whether you climb in the Cascades, the Rockies, or the Alps, count on the versatile Prism Optimus Jacket for warmth.

Bottom Line: The North Face Prism Optimus Jacket keeps the insulation coming when cold days turn into cold, wet days.

Great down jacket   11-16-08
JohnHiker (1): rank
I got this jacket for $150. It was the best purchase I have made this year. Overall I would give the jacket 5/5. The jacket is very comfortable. The lining is North Face's unique nylon taffeta which is incredibly soft and smooth. The down makes it feel like a plush pillow. The collar has a slightly more durable taffeta and there is a small patch of very soft microfiber fleece for your chin, very comfortable. For insulation, the 700 down will keep you warm in any temperature, and the primaloft synthetic insulation makes it useful in wet weather. There is primaloft in the hood, collar and throughout the body of the jacket. The jacket has welded baffles (no seams) so it has a great stealthy look and prevents down from coming out. This also makes it extremely durable However, very small amounts of down come out now and then, but it is barely noticeable. The adjustable hood stows in the collar when it isn't needed, but this does however make the collar quite cramped and stiff, but not to the point that it is uncomfortable. There is a total of 4 pockets and one stretch water bottle holder. The jacket also comes with a stuff sack that lets you compress it to the size of a football. All of the logos on the jacket are printed on in a reflective material, not embroidered as I would have liked. A very minor problem however. This jacket is extremely versatile and durable. If you find it for less than 200, definitely buy it. It is worth the $300 price tag, however. This jacket runs slightly small (many of the Summit Series coats do). I normally wear a large but bought an XL. It just reaches the thigh.

Down Perfection   03-09-08

North Face Prism Optimus is designed and built like no other down jacket on the market. 1. All the baffles are welded not stitched which gives the jacket a great look and makes it very durable. 2. The use of Primaloft and down together is ingenious. The hood is Primaloft so when it gets wet you are still warm and the pockets are Primaloft, and your backpack straps don't compress the down. The down in the jacket is only 700 fill but it is super warm. Spending 10 days in the St. Alias and this will be my warm jacket.
