While the Sentinel jacket keeps air out well, it still keeps you comfortable as the softshell material breathes easily. As you reach the crux, open up the Sentinel Jacket's core vents to let in a little extra air and keep your cool. Grab some grub from the specially designed pockets without taking off your pack and climb on in comfort—the fleece lining keeps you warm and chafe-free. Lightweight jacket that does the job   09-24-06

This jacket is amazing, it states it’s windproof and I took it for a test ride on my scooter and sure enough no wind penetrated the jacket. The only spot I felt a chill was down the zipper, it does have an inner flap backing the zipper but if they has one on the outside this jacket would be totally windproof. The warmth that it provided me on my ride was amazing, as long as you have it zipped up this jacket could be used well down into the 20 degree mark. The fabric has a nice sheen to it and the fit is perfect, my only gripe is that the cuff is kinda cheesy with its thin elastic vs a cuff with a adjustable hook-and-loop strap. Looks like a inside liner jacket cuff. Bottom line, if you like thin warm coats this is the one for you.

I really like this jacket. I own a few The North Face jackets and this is a great addition. I've had this jacket for 2yrs...my version does not have the waist cinch or the hook and loop closure cuff adjuster but I actually prefer that. As many have already stated, this jacket is very windproof. I wash this jacket with Nikwax so that I could wear this out in a light rainfall with no hesitation. The style and cut of this jacket is superb...it offers a sleek minimalist look. The only minor downside to this jacket is that it is not warm, but I do not think this is a negative because it makes this jacket more versatile. I did not give it a full 5-star rating because the microfleece interior sticks/clings to whatever shirt I'm wearing underneath, be it cotton, wool, or a technical base. Also, the price is a bit high...I'm glad I got this at the The North Face outlet for less than $100.
