Timberland founder, Nathan Swartz, began his bootmaking career in 1918 as an apprentice and learned how to craft fine leather boots. In the 1960s, with the help of his sons, Swartz introduced injection-molding technology to the footwear industry. This technology fused soles to leather uppers without stitching, producing one of the first truly waterproof boots. Now Timberland’s line of boots and shoes, both for work and casual wear have grown tremendously. Timberland believes in quality craftsmanship and giving back to the community and sponsors several community service organizations.

Description of Timberland Cadion Mid Gore-Tex XCR Membrane Hiking Boot - Women's:
Timberland made the Women's Cadion Mid Gore-Tex XCR Hiking Boot for burly multi-day adventures. This bomber boot's Gore-Tex XCR membrane and Shoeller textile upper give you exceptional durability, breathablity, and waterproofing at only 1lb 9oz. As one mile turns into six, your feet stay cool and comfortable—a channeled mesh lining and a tri-zoned removable footbed in each boot promote healthy air circulation. As you scramble up talus and over rough river beds, the Cadion's external molded heel counter provides rear foot stability and a lightweight TPU rand on the toe and sidewall protects you. Move quickly and with confidence over varied terrain—the specially designed Vibram outsole optimizes traction while the memory foam cuff gives your ankles custom fit support. Hike anywhere in these burly lightweight boots, even on glaciers—these boots are flexible crampon compatible.

Super light and supportive   09-07-07

I just took these boots out for a 3-day trip of scrambling, rock hopping, and scree skiing. Any other pair of boots this light would have been shredded, but these survived with nary a broken seam. In fact, many of the seams are sealed making them impenetrable. The boot feels a bit like a stiff trail running shoe underfoot with the ankle support of a bigger boot (perfect!). The rubber is super sticky even on slick rocks. You can tell this is a boot Ed Viesturs designed! Be aware that it runs narrow. It might be a tad bit too narrow for me. I ended up ordering a half size bigger than I normally do in hiking boots. I hope Timberland makes this in multiple widths soon.

Too narrow for average feet   03-24-08

The moment I took these well-rated boots out of the box, I knew they were too narrow in the toe box for my tiny 5.5 medium width foot. I had upped by size to a 6 based on other user reviews but still could barely stuff my foot in. I have never had to buy a wide shoe so I know it's the cut of the boot. If you're looking for some wiggle room for your toes, this boot is defintely not the right choice.
