Description of SmartWool Lightweight V Top - Women's:
Pull on your SmartWool Women's Lightweight V Long Underwear Top before you pitch your tent and make dinner. This lightweight base layer keeps you warm as the sun sets at your base camp, and feels comfy enough to wear into your sleeping bag. Hike, climb, or bike in it alone or as a base layer on chilly days—the material wicks your sweat. Made from soft merino wool, these long-johns don't itch, and they don't stink like synthetics are prone to do. You'll be so comfortable in this V-neck top that you'll even wear it to lounge around the house when you get home.
Bottom Line: Be comfortable in the SmartWool Lightweight Long Underwear through four seasons of outdoor activities.
I love merino wool clothing. This was the first non-sock Smartwool I've purchased. I was very disappointed with the tight fit of the neck (v-neck at that!). Perhaps, with a larger size, the neck wouldn't constrict so, but I can't see that one size up would be enough. I returned the top.
I bought this top in Juniper Print. The colour is great and the little swirl pattern is a nice touch. Quality is excellent, the fabric is wonderfully soft, as I've come to expect from Smartwool. The fix is definitely snug (long underwear fit), perfect for layering, but I didn't find it constricting or uncomfortable at the neck or arms as some other reviewers mentioned. I ordered a Large, which is my usual Smartwool size, and I would say I'm of average build, maybe slightly wide through the shoulders.
I normally love Smartwool, but I'm not sure what happened with this shirt. I usually wear a size small in Smartwool's shirts (microweight tees, polos and some sweaters). But I can barely get this shirt on. It's extremely tight around my arms and the neck opening is tiny. If I didn't have pitifully small arms I wouldn't be able to wear it. The fabric is good and the shirt is very warm, but order at least a size larger, maybe even two for comfort. This fabric is not very stretchy, unlike their microweight stuff.
