Description of SmartWool Midweight Bottom - Women's: |
 |
Wear the SmartWool Women's Midweight Bottom for stop-and-go aerobic activities or as an insulating base layer. This warm pant is ideal for situations where the weather and temperature fluctuate, like in alpine environments. SmartWool's porous natural fibers move moisture in vapor form, creating a dry layer of air around your body that encourages evaporative cooling; you stay drier and more comfortable throughout your alpine foray. By comparison, synthetics transport moisture after it condenses; you must be moving and visibly sweaty for moisture management to occur, which can lead to chills once you stop moving. SmartWool fiber adapts to a broad range of conditions; it keeps you warm when you rest and cool when your pulse and core temperature heat up. This naturally anti-microbial pant features a covered elastic waistband, chafe-reducing flatlock seams, and an active fit that allows for bulk-free layering without inhibiting your freedom of movement.
Bottom Line: SmartWool designed the Women's Midweight Bottom for stop-and-go outdoor athletes.

| These fit better than the rest! 11-26-08 |

| I wasn't sure which of the women's wool long underwear bottoms would be the best, so I ordered the Icebreaker, the Marmot, and the Smart Wool. The Icebreaker long underwear bottoms are 1) just a tiny bit scratchy 2) much too tight in the elastic waist band, which was both unflattering and uncomfortable and 3) too high up on my torso, with the waist coming far over my belly button. The Marmot have kind of thick seams in the legs that makes them less attractive and less suitable for use as leggings that might show (versus long underwear that would never show), and they were also baggy in the butt and high-waisted. In contrast, the Smartwool have a much softer knit, and they have a nice, covered elastic waist band that hits just below my natural waist without binding or creating a muffin top (and I am thin, so the Icebreaker ones had to be really tight in the waist to make that happen). I LOVE the Smart Wool bottoms, though I do also love my Icebreaker wool tops. |

| My wife has worn these while horseback riding down to about 20 degrees and she didn't want to take them off when she got home. She loves them. |

| Well-made, warm thermal bottoms. The fabric isn't scratchy at all. Very comfortable. Fit is very good. Waist falls just below belly button. Great thermals for those who want natural fabric.
