Description of Suunto X3HR Heart Rate Monitor Watch:
The Suunto X3-HR brings together the features of an altimeter with a heart rate monitor, making it a great tool for runners, cyclists, triathletes and outdoor fitness enthusiasts. It's a slightly smaller, lighter alternative to its sibling, the X6-HR, with nearly all the same features except a compass and PC interface. The X3-HR allows users to track the intensity of a workout by displaying heart rate and target zones constantly throughout training. It also charts heart rate and elevation changes for the overall workout, allowing users to track their performance throughout the entire workout. The watch's digital logbook allows users to store up to 10 training sessions, and its weather functions help athletes to plan accordingly for outdoor activities. Its smaller size and light weight also make it Suunto's first unisex watch.

My heart rate reading would frequently fluctuate from the low 50s to the high 180s and then flat line completely within a matter of seconds. Unless something is seriously wrong with me, I have to figure that it's the watch's fault! The altimeter has to be reset constantly in order to produce somewhat accurate readings (it tends to believe that I dip below sea level when it gets hot even though I haven't moved). Since these where the two functions I really needed, I'm going to have to shop for another watch.

I have a Suunto X3HR (the Autumn 2005 all black model) and have had no problems with it at all. The heart rate monitor was designed by Polar and is as good as similar models in that brand, except that the battery in the Suunto transmitter can be replaced, while in the Polar brands it cannot. I also appreciate that the back of the Suunto is plastic rather than metal, which sometimes causes allergic reactions in warm weather. The altimeter is no better or worse than any similar model/manufacturer; they all need frequent resetting with pressure change. In the X3HR this can be done very easily and quickly compared to some other wrist-tops I looked at. I wish Suunto provided a silicone face-protector for this as they do for their dive computers though... All in all, excellently priced for the features.

Watch and band's "ice" color, it actually turned yellow after a week or so. I have already sent the watch back.
