The Sugoi Men's Helium Jacket isn't really lighter than air, but it does weigh in at a mere three ounces and protects you from light rain and wind. This semi-fitted, breathable jacket features laser vents under the arms so you don't get swampy feeling as you run. A back pocket holds your MP3 or energy gel, and 3M Scotchlite along the zipper helps vehicle drivers see you in low light.
Bottom Line: Drizzle and wind are no reasons to do your run on a treadmill. Pull on the super lightweight Sugoi Helium Jacket and get outside.
I purchased the Helium jacket based on reviews on another site. It's ultralight and packs down very small. I wanted something that could be stored in a pouch on my hydration belt. I went for a morning run in Arkansas in early January. The temperatures were in the low 40's. For base layers I was wearing a synthetic long sleeve running shirt and an under armor type shirt under that. The Helium windbreaker was my outter layer. I was running on the trails in Hot Springs National Park. When the trail crossed a ridgetop, I was hit by a cold northwest wind. It cut right through the windbreaker. For these conditions my cheap windbreaker that I purchased at target would have been better. I am curious to see how water resistant this jacket is. The jacket vents really well.
I will continue to experiment with this jacket. It's definitely a great addition to cram into your fanny pack on a colder day.
I was hoping for a jacket that would fit my in jersey pocket with room to spare-- and this does really well. It fits in a plastic sandwich bag with a rubber band as a compressor. With a wool jersey. it has kept me warm in the sub-30F temps at speeds of 20MPH and above. It's not quite long enough to cover my jersey however and it does not have a drawstring at the bottom to tighten it down to control the draft one might develop in an aero position. The greatest setback is that although the Helium fabric is super-light, it is also super noisy when riding at speed. The flapping around takes some getting used-to. This said, it must be a great jacket for runners and I am going to keep this for the odd job, it's bound to be handy sometime!
