Description of 66 North Iceland Vatnajokull Jacket - Men's:
Whether or not you can pronounce it, the 66 North Vatnajokull Jacket will still provide outstanding fit, warmth, and function. Polartec Wind Pro is unique, fending off gusts and light precipitation using a denser outer layer instead of a membrane, thus preserving the breathability of pure fleece when layering. The Vatnajokull receives PowerShield stretch softshell reinforcements on the shoulders and cuffs for added abrasion and weather resistance, while the body-hugging cut (a signature of 66 North garments) still allows it to slip under a trim hardshell in a storm.
Bottom Line: If it’s good enough for Icelandic weather…
First of all, what you're getting here is a tailored/athletic fit fleece with a style that is unique. Having said that, you will definitely want to size up...or even go up 2 sizes if you want to layer and don't mind the sleeves being longer than usual. I had a chance to try this jacket out a couple days after I got it and it passed with flying colors during a trip to southern Colorado. (just walking around after skiing). While it does what a Polartec fleece should (and looks great doing it) I can't give it 5 stars because of the price point...and also minor details like the annoying left hand zip (Euro style) and too shallow to be very useful chest pocket. To sum things up, 66 north outerwear is still fairly rare in North America, so this jacket will meet your needs for a somewhat wind resistant fleece, and at the same time you won't see 50 people a day wearing the same jacket. For me, that alone is worth the extra cost.
Love the jacket for comfort , however it is a little snug- I am 5'4" and 155lbs and a medium seemed like it would be perfect, but it is a little snug, would move to a larger size if planning on wearing layers. Quality is excellent, many positive comments and looks. In hindsight would go a size larger fro more flexibility in what to wear in varying climates.
Loved the fleece jacket but it ran too small. I am 6'5", 225 lbs. and I fit into almost any 2XL. Unfortunately this one was a very tight 2 XL. I hated to return it because it was a great jacket.
