Technical outerwear can look out-of-place in the backcountry, but thanks to the Solstice Café Carlyle Shell, that’s no longer an issue. This is a light, tough 3-ply waterproof ski shell that’s dialed for out-of-bounds use but doesn’t make you look like a visitor from the future. Dual hand pockets, dual bellows chest pockets, dual Napoleon pockets with RiRi waterproof zips, an internal zip compartment and two climbing-skin-sized internal mesh pockets keep everything in order while touring. For deep days, it has a removable, inverted storm skirt for spindrift protection, and on the ascent, Solstice’s ‘blow-by’ through-venting keeps you running cool. It’s serious big-mountain tech, with looks as authentic as a pair of Explosivs.
