Description of Shimano America MT70 Mountain Bike Shoe - Men's: |
 |
The Shimano Men's MT70 Mountain Bike Shoe features a trail-running outsole, a waterproof Gore-Tex insert, and SPD compatibility for commuting. We know you're thinking “what's a commuting shoe doing on my hard-core site?” Well, step back. These shoes may look geek-a-riffic, but they kicks ass when we ride to work on crappy, rainy days, and we can wear ‘em for eight hours without crippling our feet. Enough said.
Bottom Line: We love the Shimano MT70. So watch your mouth.

| I got this shoe for commuting. I have yet to fully test it, but the features fit what I wanted in the commuting shoe and beyond - very water resistant, breathable, good looking off the bike, comfortable to walk in, yet still perform well on the bike. The Vibram sole adds to that to make it great for adventure mountain biking - when extended hiking may be necessary, and I reckon they'd be great for cyclo-cross too.
The Vibram sole adds some weight, but out-of-the box the pair weighed 1010g (size 43), which is slightly less then my Chaco Z2 Vibram sandals, so they're not bad, considering. I thought they fit true to size, though I've read where some thought they ran a bit small. The toe tip and heal have a bit of give for walking/hiking, while the core of the sole is still stiff for efficient power transfer - well designed IMHO. |

| Picked these up on sale and am pretty happy with them. They're really comfy off the bike which is nice. The shoe manages a very good balance of comfort while still having a nice stiff sole. Look wise they're not hideous, but they're not gorgeous either. Then again I'm more of a fan of simple boot look than the whole synthetic upper / sport sneaker thing. It'd be nice if these were available in more of a business casual boot look for the commuters this shoe really appeals to.
Be aware that these are SPD shoes so they won't work with Shimano's road bike pedals (SPD use 2 cleats in a horizontal configuration) - not a major concern just something to be aware of - the Shimano PD-A520 Sport SPD pedals are a good match here. |

| Great shoes, warm and dry 11-19-08 |

| Very pleased with these shoes. Picked them up on sale for commuting in Chicago, so being able to walk around in them was a must, and they fulfill that need 100%.
But it is freezing here, too, and wet, in winter, so keeping my feet warm and dry are also priorities. Well, these are awesome in that regard---it was near freezing this morning and my feet were sweating when I got to work. I will happily ride these on winter training rides!
