Description of Scarpa ZG Low Oxygen Hiking Shoe - Men's:
Though the Scarpa ZG Low Oxygen Men's Hiking Shoes weigh the same as most ultralight running shoes, they provide the support you need for long-distance fastpacking. Vibram Dynatech outsoles give you the grip you need for dirt, rocks, and mud. A combination of mesh, nylon, and suede material makes the ZG Low Oxygen Hiking Shoes durable and breathable enough to take on your most demanding hikes. Scarpa included an EVA midsole to add support and cushion and keep your feet comfortable even as you near the end of your endurance trip.
Bottom Line: Lose weight for long hikes with the Scarpa ZG Low Oxygen Hiking Shoes.
As others have written, the insoles that come with these shoes is a joke. They are super thin and would not stay in place. I also don't like that the tongue is not gusseted, which lets in trail debris, especially since the tongues tend to slip way over to the outside of the shoe, to the point that my sock is visible on the top of my foot. The sole, while providing great traction on every surface I have encountered, is not stiff enough for true hiking. I can feel rocks through it, and my feet are fatigued at the end of the day. Because of the shoes light weight and flimsy soles, they seem to me to be more of a trail runner than a true hiking shoe.
The shoe is great, however, the inserts they come with are made of a thin layer of foam, and not foam rubber rendering them useless (even the ink used for the logo bleeds onto your sock). They are made in Romania and not Italy. Get a half size larger adn with some good inserts they should be good to go.
I had been hiking with a pair of Merrells for the past six months and wanted to try something else. I should have continued with what I know worked. This was my first time wearing the Scarpa shoes and I had the same problem with the aching feet as did the other reviewer. At first, the were very comfortable, but after about 20 minutes, my left foot was aching (never a problem with the Merrells). I love the soles on rocks and hard packed ground, but had some slippage problems on the loose stuff. I bought these because they were priced well. I will use them for now, but switch back to Merrell soon.
