Description of Ruffwear Palisades Pack II:
The totally redesigned Palisades Pack II offers a complete component system making it the paws down favorite for backcountry excursions. An internal compression strap system keeps loads high and tight for snag free navigation and an improved center of gravity adds to a dog's overall mobility. The spiderweb chassis harness addresses load distribution, fitting and comfort so your pooch will never whimper about back pain. The harness also features a relocated assistance handle to improve balance when you have to help him over those boulders. Elliptically-shaped saddlebags made of 1680-Denier ballistic nylon create a durable, low profile gear-carrying pack. Two side-release Delrin buckles connect the pack and harness, allowing the chassis and saddlebags to easily separate for fitting, water crossings and rest stops. Pockets placed in strategic locations accommodate leads, treats, pick-up bags, and other accessories. The Palisades Pack II comes with two hydration bladders, one carried in each side of the pack that not only carry water but cushion the dog from gear and food within the pack, aid in keeping the dog cool, and can be used to balance the load from side to side.

Bottom Line: The redesigned Palisades Pack II is feature-filled expedition weight dog pack for experienced backcountry hounds.

Ruff - Love it!   08-23-08

I just got back from my first 5-mile hike wearing the pack. My human comes up with a lot of crazy stuff for me to wear, but this pack made me feel special. I couldn't have been prouder leading the other K9 Trail Blazers and their humans. I carried all of my own food, water and "my ball". My human did mess me up by giving me water from only one side which made it hard for me to walk straight. I am a slender Rotti mix (50 lbs) and the "small" is plenty big. Take note that if you buy a red one like mine, horses don't like passing you. I thought that was kinda cool, but your human may not. I feel that I could have hauled a lot more than I did. The pack has plenty of space in the main pockets and other smaller pockets for my hiking boots and such. The bag easily detaches from the harness, allowing my human easy access to my food and water. It took me a little while to figure out that my body was much wider with the pack on. It spooked me a couple of times because I forgot I was even wearing the pack (it's so comfortable). I am going to go pass out now. Chow.

Sweet pack   12-28-07

This doesn't compare to any other pack. It's top notch! I trained both of my Aussies load carrying with a cheap Kelty pack. After the first desert trip the pack broke and left me carrying everything. This pack is perfect for the Utah desert. The internal water bladders are ideal for long hot sandy trudges. You'll never have to worry about your dogs finding the next water hole. The material is very, very strong and there's enough room for 6 beers on each side. Perfect!

Working so far   01-26-09

Abbie has only had the pack for a couple weeks, so haven't gone on any hiking trips yet to fully utilize it's packing ability. But she has been running around in the snow with it on just to get a feel for it. Started letting her run without any weight in it and the saddle packs tended to flip up and over to the other side, causing the whole pack to shift to one side of the body. The packs are not connected to the harness along the bottom, so it would certainly do this without any weight in them. Added some weight to each side and has been working great since. As other reviewers have noted, these packs do run larger then advertised. Measurements show my dog to go with a large, but heeded the advice from others and purchased a medium. Pack fits wonderfully so far. Pack appears to be rugged and durable with solid stitching. The water bladders seem to be a bit flimsy but haven't had a chance to use them yet. Definitely recommend this pack for your pup.
