Princeton Tec's Scout Headlamp defines ultralight and compact. Waterproof and incredibly light, the Scout is small enough that you'll want a spare one in your car and backpack in case your other lights crap out. Its hinged lamp housing clips onto darn near anything (like say, the included band or a cap bill) and directs light where you need it. Four tiny lithium coin cell batteries power the Scout Headlamp for massive battery life and negligible weight and size. This Princeton Tec headlamp sports an electronically controlled switch that toggles between 3 levels of light output and 2 emergency signal modes.
Bottom Line: The Princeton Tec Scout—a basic and super handy headlamp that you'll find 1,000,001 uses for.
This light is way more that I expected. The three levels are bright, really bright, and really really bright. On the lowest setting it was bright enough for a 3 mile midnight hike, and is way better for my late night snack runs on my bike than my big clunky 5 LED bike light. The low setting is so bright that I never use the higher settings, and it lasts forever. Its also small, light, water resistant (which I haven't tested yet), and even disregarding its low low low price, I can't imagine ever needing or wanting a bigger (or more expensive) light. I gave it a 4 out of five for two simple reasons. The blinking settings are both very slow. The fast is what I would have expected the slow to be, and I thought the light turned off when it was in slow mode. Secondly, to cycle through the modes it is a bit funny because if you wait two seconds to press the button again, it turns off, so you have to know exactly which setting you want to go to...but who cares, you get used to it after a few minutes of use. I LOVE this light.
I bought this on SAC and only one headlamp works. Returning for a functional item. Hopefully, if the new works properly, it'll be perfect for walking the dog early AM and to put in my pack for hiking (in case of darkness)! Looking forward to a fully functional unit!
