The Primus Eta Power EF Stove keeps you nimble on the trail with extremely fast boiling time and low fuel consumption. The flameless pre-heating coil maximizes efficiency in cold and windy environs where you depend on your stove to survive. This stove is way bigger than any other on the market and I think that drives people away.
I like it because, it's not just a stove but a mess kit: Pot, Pan, silvermeals, meals, and light seasoning all fit in the bag. It's way more fuel efficient than most out there because it boils water almost instantly.
This stove really is an ace on multi-person treks, since the soloist will be scratching their head some, I gave it a four.
Also the piezo works fine, just adjust the spark gap.
This stove ROCKS!! I am a gear junkie so when it was given the Editor’s Choice Award in 2007 by Backpacker Magazine I just had to try it. It spanked my jet boil so I sold the JB on eBay and have purchased two more Eta's as gifts and my friends love them. I have used this stove at 14000 plus feet and temperatures below 0 F. I was boiling water before my hiking partners got there stoves preheated. The only draw back is its a little bulkier and the fry pan lid needs an attachment to remove it from the pot.
I just picked this up from SAC to replace my JetBoil as the Jetboil doesn't always cut it for less than one in my group.
I recently used the EtaPower to cook dinner for four while out on a loop. I'd have to say that this stove is the benchmark of performance. In less than 4.7 mins I had 2.1L of water at a rumbling boil. Conditions were good 58 deg Fahrenheit with winds < 7mph. I also found that my aluminum can alcohol jet stove fits perfectly within the center of the Eta's stand. This sits well with me as a backup, just in case.
Cons: As an ultralight junkie, I tend to favor minimal weight when alone. This stove has some mild weight to it (in comparison) and if your traveling alone; you may want to opt for something lighter and use this in groups when you can split the weight.
