I had the same size problem. I returned the smalls and got an x-small. I too am 5'4 about 120lbs and the smalls looked like I was wearing a parachute. The x-smalls fit like a glove. Backcountry was EXCELLENT about the return and didn't charge me additional shipping. Over all these are great pants!

Poor fit 11-05-09

I'm 5'4", 120# Usually wear a size 2-4. I'm on the shorter side, so I bought an XS which was a bit too snug and short, and a S which was far too large. The fit is more bulky than slender, but they seemed like good quality. The liner was soft and comfortable. Returned only because the sizing was off.
