Haven't used them backpacking yet but I can tell already that they're pretty good pants. They are very breathable and lightweight, yet seem very tough. The large fits my 6'1 200lb frame perfectly and the stretch is a very nice touch. The only thing I would add is some leg zips. Great Patagonia quality for a hard-to-beat price
