Description of Northwave Bike Typhoon S.B.S. Cycling Shoe - Men's:
Rain down a world of pain on the competition when you wear the Northwave Men's Typhoon S.B.S. Cycling Shoe. Break free from the middle of the pack with its carbon composite sole, which transfers your energy directly from shoe to pedal. The Typhoon's upper forms around the shape of your foot for a dialed-in fit while adjustable buckles and hook-and-loop straps securely strap in your feet. Ventilation enters through the toes to keep your dogs cool, and an anatomical footbed provides comfort for long rides.
I had a hell of a time finding shoes that fit me comfortably (I'm a US 13), and gave up after going to the 6th local bike shop. I thought I would wear a 47, but that equated to a US 14 so I bought a 46, which is 13. Lo and behold, they were too small, so I returned them (Backcountry has the BEST return policy, period) and got the 47. I would suggest ordering a size up and returning if too big.
I just did an easy 20 miles in them and they feel great. Looks like I'll be sticking with Northwave from here on out.
I'm a long-time Shimano shoe wearer, but decided to give these a try after seeing them on BT for a great price. I was worried at first glance when they arrived, because the tongue looked very thin, and the vents on top of the toe look like metal screening (we'll find out if it rusts over time). However, the fit is excellent - nice wide toe box, the straps and buckle are snug without binding/pinching, and the footbed feels great, even on my high arches. I've got only about 500 miles on them, but so far I'm very impressed.
This shoe is really great, but not perfect for me. It vents REALLY well and it's easy to adjust and the ratchet strap up top is a great touch, but it's a bit wider than I like my shoes (I have a narrower than normal foot, but not so narrow I usually need a different shoe) but I think I'll deal with it. The shoe is otherwise great.
