Description of Montrail CTC Mid XCR Hiking Shoe - Women's:
Lace up your Montrail Women’s CTC Mid XCR Hiking Shoes, and get moving. From canyons riddled with narrow passages and rocky obstacles to sketchy approaches to climbing crags, the CTC (car-to-car) Shoes help you cross terrain that requires climbing or scrambling. Gryptonite outsoles with smearing lugs on the medial forefoot help you get up easy class V climbs. Trail lugs on the heel and lateral forefoot give you traction as you hike. Air mesh with Gore-Tex inserts ensure your feet don’t overheat and help them stay dry, even in extreme conditions.

Bottom Line: Get there and back in these incredible approach shoes.

Ideal lightweight traction, comfort, and fit!   01-26-09

This shoe is by far the best hiking shoe I have ever worn. I have very picky feet. These Montrails fit close in the heel, provide excellent support for my whole foot, yet are low-profile, sleek-looking, and not at all clunky like most hikers. The design of this shoe and its lacing style provide a phenomenal custom fit. I wear these CTC's for hiking, casual trail running, and rock scrambling. Traction is superb, and they are very liberating to wear. Lightweight and comfy, they are cut to fit your foot without excess yet are very protective. I usually carry a 15 pound daypack and hike in the Rockies. These are my favorite hikers of all time! And I have worn a lot of different shoes over the years. Just try to stay out of the mud, as they get gunked up and it's hard to clean the treads

Cool design, but climbing cut is snug   08-29-09

Really cool design, love the very lightweight top portion, with a very supportive and grippy bottom that's not very heavy either. These fit comfortably and hugged my feet almost perfectly-- except the approach shoe part of the design meant that they cut in pretty heavily on the outside portion of your foot, at angle like a climbing shoe. For me that meant a little too much pressure on that outside edge of my foot. If you are OK with a more narrow foot box, or keep your feet in a climbing-type scrunch even for hiking, these will be awesome.

Great shoes. I almost always wear Montrails to hike. They fit true to size and need NO BREAKING IN. Put them on and go! Soles stick to slick rock.
