Description of Montrail CTC Mid GTX Hiking Shoe - Men's:
Use the Montrail Men's CTC Mid GTX Hiking Shoe to blur the lines between hiking and climbing. An AirMesh Gore-Tex liner bootie keeps the water out while still allowing your foot to breathe. Montrail gave the CTC Mid GTX Shoe a Gryptonite sole with Smearing lugs in the forefoot and hiking lugs in the heel, so you can get traction on solid rock and on the trail. A rubber toe bumper increases grip for wedging up chimneys or ascending super-steep slopes, and a TPU shank gives you unending, solid support underfoot.
Bottom Line: The Montrail CTC Mid GTX gives you a double-dose of performance.
Super light, high performance gore-tex boot. They are pretty darn tough but I have had a few pairs start to blow out along the stiching where your foot bends - seam seeler does the trick. I have used these boots for casual hiking and full on expedition climbing in the himalaya. They are stiff enough to strap crampons to for glacier travel and easier snow/ice pitches and soft enough to climb better than any boot in their class - for sure! The gtx sock inside stays dry as long as you are not getting into deap snow - wear gaiters in the heavy rain/snow and you will stay dry. I had a buddy who complained about them rubbing his achilles tendon...maybe a bit on the narrow side. I say super good value!
The boots fit my feet great and the support was exactly what I wanted for my type of hiking (A day or 2, rocky terrain, 20lb pack). Issue was with my particular ankle. Hot spot on my tendon. My problem, not the boot.
Rugged and light, rubber's sticky and durable. Good for edging and overall great support, only thing is I have slightly wider feet and these are built pretty narrow. But great product.
