Description of Mountain Hardwear Merced Gene Pant - Men's:
Keep your mountain-man style, but look socially acceptable in the city when you wear the Mountain Hardwear Men's Merced Gene Pant. Styled like your favorite jeans, these cotton twill pants have a relaxed, modern fit and a low-rise waist that defies dad's up-to-the-armpits look. A wide waistband will fit your favorite old cowboy belt, and the two over-sized back pockets give the Merced Pant an urban edge.
Bottom Line: How'd I get so handsome? Good Genes, baby.
I have had 1 pair of these for several years now and pretty much wear them exclusively! They have been to India twice and been up thousands of vertical feet. Not too baggy but have a great relaxed fit, the material is pretty thick so don't expect them to be super lightweight. I find the sizing to be pretty much dead on, although the medium/regular size maybe a tad on the long side for me (I'm 5.9, 31" inseam - 33" waist). These britches will last and fit well!
Ever seen pictures of folks climbing in painter pants? There was a reason for that. These serve the same purpose -- super durable and comfoprtable, but you can wear them out to the bar as well as the crag. I've rolled my up for craggin' or bouldering and dashed out them out to a nice dinner with a collared shirt tucked in. I find I have plenty of room to move for climbing even if they don't stretch like a prAna jean. All in all, a great pant.
These pants are really durable and the dark color ages well. Gusseted, so you don't have to worry about blowing these out. Can take whatever you throw at it, be it offwidths, rough sandstone, sharp crystals, whatever! I have a couple of pairs and they go on all trips.
