Description of Marmot Shooting Star Component Jacket - Women's:
The removable liner in the Marmot Women’s Shooting Star Component Jacket gives you layering options on the slopes and après ski. The zip-off powder skirt and removable hood reduce bulk when you want to bring this jacket along on cold backpacking trips, and the pitzips help you cool off after a long bump run on the hill. Marmot’s Angel-Wing Movement design means you can lift your arms without exposing your stomach, and waterproof breathable fabric and fully taped seams block moisture so you can ride through gnarly winter storms. Wear the liner around the lodge, and slip into just the shell for spring skiing.
I've had this jacket for two months now and love it. It's light weight and has an attractive fit. I'm 5'2" and was a little hesitant as things generally don't fit me properly. But this jacket proved to be perfect and the sizing chart is spot on. It has a great length and a flattering fit. I's the first time I've actually felt that I've had a nice shape in a winter garment. I often ride my bike to school and work and am pleased that when my jeans sneak down in the back the jacket conceals and keeps my lower back warm. I am also able to throw my hair up in a ponytail and still wear the hood without it exposing my forehead. The pit zips are a nice touch on those chilly yet warmer fall days when a sweater isn't enough. It is quality constructed and the small details are pretty nice (zipper pulls, soft fabric around face area, etc). The pockets don't have a heck of a lot of room though. The side pockets can easily accommodate small hands and the two uppers can fit a little bigger than an ID or a compact digital camera. The inner sunglasses compartment is big but the close fit of this jacket does make bigger glasses tend to poke in the rib area, but I'm okay with that part. Another bonus of this jacket is that the fabric is really quiet and doesn't make much sound when moving. Lastly I'd like to point out the temperature comfort level. So far the lowest temperature experienced in it was 18 degrees and I was quite comfy. It has been windy here and this jacket didn't allow any breeze to penetrate it. I'll give an update later on the jackets functionality in negative degree weather to see how it stands up. Sorry about the long review folks, but I had to clear some things up to hesitant buyers.
I just bought this jacket and love it already. The liner is great. It's not fleece like you find in so many jackets so you can wear a sweater under it and not have to worry about static. Tons of pockets for all the stuff you bring while skiing. The goggle pockets is great, I've not had one on previous jackets. The zip off hood and powder skirt make this jacket very versitile so you can wear it for any activity. I got it in the Nettle. The outer layer is very bright and i love it. You will never be missed on the ski slope. The liner is a darker but will bright green.
