Marmot made the Men's Impulse Jacket at a low weight of only 15 ounces and still packed it with features for backpacking and climbing. Waterproof breathable PreCip material provides total water protection. Marmot made the Impulse Jacket's hood removable, and it also rolls into the collar for times when you don't need it but don't want it in your pack. This storm jacket also packs small to take up little pack space when the sun shines bright.
Bottom Line: Keep the features and lose the weight with the Marmot Impulse Jacket.
I have had the Impulse Jacket for a couple of months now -- through the Fall season -- and it has proved itself to me as a great waterproof/windproof, packable shell for rapidly changing weather conditions. I use it primarily for day hiking in the New England area; it's lightweight and fitted to go over a medium insulating layer or can be used alone in milder temps. It's well-made, super lightweight and packs down to almost nothing -- I highly recommend it.
Amazing buy. I used it during a week in the Smokey Mountains. It fits great and I was able to wear it over a Columbia fleece. It was below 32 degrees at night and it definitely kept me warm and dry. I've even worn it around campus walking to class in the rain. It's been comfortable up to about 50 degrees, then I started getting a bit warm and needed to use the vents. So far so good!
I just purchased this jacket and as I was planning to planning to wear it over an XL North Face Denali. It is so small that it isn't going to happen. I can wear it alone as a rain jacket in the warm weather, but what I had hoped for was to wear it as a shell on cold snowy days. Guess I should stick with Mountain Hardwear. This is the second experience of this kind that I have had recently. The other was with a North Face Alliance jacket. I suppose that the Chinese need to make a few bucks and are cutting back on material. I am cutting back too, on buying Marmot and North Face products. I find it intreresting that I still have size large shirts in my closet that I can wear just fine, but anything made in China size XXL is too small. Fed up.
