At only 2.5 ounces, there’s no reason not to throw the Mammut TXLite Headlamp in your pack for everything from multi-pitch rock routes to long day hikes. The single, superbright LED features three different brightness settings, a tiltable housing, and a lightweight, easy-adjust band for full minimalist functionality.
Bottom Line: One of the ten essentials you don’t want to leave behind.
I have a number of headlamps, but the TXLite is now my go-to for almost every headlamp task. Light and small enough to carry in a pocket, it works fine for walking trails at night but is not so bright that you can't use it for close-up tasks with the three levels of illumination. Alkaline batteries last a long time in it, although it comes with non-alkaline ones. Beam pattern with a good throw spot yet a decent size corona is perfect for general tasks. Would have preferred green instead of the red one I got on SaC, but for the price, red was fine. Only thing I could criticize would be that the length of the strap is a bit small - I use it at the very end for my size 8 head, so it feels tight on hats.
Good, small , all-around light. I prefer the single hi-flux led for running at night/in the morning as oppossed to other models (tikka plus) with 4 leds. The single bulb throws out a longer beam which i prefer as i plan out my steps. It just gives me that extra bit of time to make decisions in foot placement. My one quibble is that it is not water-resistant/proof. If this is your get out of Dodge in the dark light, it better not be raining outside.
