Description of La Sportiva Trango Trek GTX Backpacking Boot - Women's:
With the support, durability, and weather-protection of the La Sportiva Trango Trek GTX Women's Backpacking Boots, you can take on big, wet hikes without a second thought. Their Gore-Tex inserts keeps your feet totally dry as you cover a handful of miles the day after a big rainstorm. La Sportive used Vibram soles to ensure the Trango Trek GTX Boots had the traction needed for steep, slick conditions. Then they added a Roughout leather upper to help these burly boots last season after season.
Bottom Line: La Sportiva introduces boots as tough as you—the Trango Trek GTX Backpacking Boots.
Just when I thought I would never find a boot to fit my slightly wider than average foot, I ordered these as my last resort. Out of the box, they were a perfect fit and true to size. Wore them with a heavy backpack on an 8 mile hike for a test run with little to no break in time. They proved to be comfortable, sturdy and warm on the snowfields of Mount Rainier with a 45 pound pack. An awesome find at a great price.
I took these boots up Half Dome last week... they were a bit too much for that, really, but I didn't find them too heavy or hot. The fit was true to size. The soles were really, really grippy, and the ankle support was good, except that it sort of pinched at the ankle no matter how I laced them. The part that worried me about the quality of these shoes and how long they would last - perhaps it was just the shoes I ordered - was that the black, soft part around the ankle started coming apart after a few miles. Has anyone else had this problem? Anyway, I returned them, and I think I'll order another pair just to see if it was just the one I had. The price is right and the shoes were otherwise right as well.

Waterlogged, not worth it for backpacking 08-31-09

I purchased these boots for my girlfriend for moderate backpacking trips. Although she said they were fairly comfortable, and the support was good, the boots did not stay dry after only 2 trips. No rain on first trip, only mild puddles, mild rain on second trip, had to ring her socks out. Boots were worn with long wicking hiking pants along with over the calf gaiters. I expected much, much more from these boots. Since we have gone with a different brand and so far, she loves them and have had no problems in the wettest summer we can remember.
