Bottom Line: Turn a burly approach into a stroll with the La Sportiva Women's Exum Ridge Running Shoes.
I agree that the Exum Ridge is a great shoe for a narrow foot. It is also a pretty stiff shoe, with a grippy sole that works well on rock and loose dirt. I got a half size bigger than normal and love the fit.
I read the reviews with interest, especially the comments made about how much the shoes could be tightened for narrow feet, as mine is a AAA with a AAAAA heel. Add misery to insult, I wear a size 10, so shoes this long usually are uber wider and thus totally don't fit my foot. Salt in the wound, I then order a 1/2 size bigger for those long days on the National Park trails on St John. I put them on and laced them up and probably for the first time in MY LIFE, these fit both my foot and my heel, with ample room to pull tighter if need be! I also realized another benny- the tongue and ankle area is more padded than any other runner I've ever owned, making it instantly more cushy all around. And even with the extra 1/2 size on an already long shoe, they don't look like Bozo's shoes! I smile reading the comment above re: for wide feet, as I'm glowing about how well they fit a long, very narrow foot as well. This company REALLY took in all considerations of a woman's foot when designing these. Happy, Happy!
I was out on an 18-hour adventure climb when these shoes were delivered to my door.I tried these on right away -- swollen and blistered feet and all -- and immediately fell in love with them. I wish I had had these for my climb! The soles are really stiff, which is great for talus slogging and rocky trails. I love that there's climbing rubber on the bottom and on the sides, which helps to grip rocky terrains easily. I tested them out on some rocky and sandy dirt hills and I like the roomy toe box -- perfect for those with wide feet, and the fact that the heels were kept snug and secure. No slip and slide. The climber shoe lacing allows me to fit my shoe where it's snug and not. Note: I ordered about 1.5 size bigger than my street shoes as climbing shoes tend to run small.
