A removable inner short in the Ventura Short solves this dilemma. The inner short uses a seamless chamois, Lycra fabric, and leg grippers for support, while the outer shell of the Ventura has Lycra inserts and an adjustable waist for riding comfort.
These shorts don't fit me perfectly BUT I got compliments from the instructors of both of the classes I took the first day I wore them. They are nice and light and are a good alternative to the spandex look.
I agree with another review that they run a tad bit small, but I'm not sure if I would have needed to upgrade a whole size to make up for it. I love the double short option and even wore the outer shorts on their own a couple of times. I was worried I'd have to hand wash but I actually accidentally let them get washed in the machine and they came out fine.
I only wish it came in other colors so I could get another.
