Description of Kelty Green River Tent 4-Person 3-Season:
Keep the bugs at bay while you lounge in the screened-in vestibule of the Kelty Green River, 4-Person, 3-Season Tent. Car camping doesn't get any better than this. The tent has a simple four pole construction so it's easy to put up and sturdy in wind. Its floor seams are taped to keep you dry in the rain and internal storage pockets can hold your playing cards and poker chips. With room to comfortably sleep four you can crash out in style.
Bottom Line: Retreat to play some cards in the vestibule when the bugs get unbearable.
I initially bought the six-man tent, but it was way too big. The four-man fits me, my girlfriend, and our two labs with room to spare. The screen house is the best part. I bought a piece of turf for the bottom, and now we stay inside without the bugs and mud. The only problem I've had is that the screen vestibule windows do not zip closed, they just tie on the bottom so a little rain came in (only in the screen part) when the wind kicked up. Definitely not a big deal when compared with the overall tent. I love this tent, and definitely recommend it to all campers.
I got this tent for Christmas last year and was initially really psyched. It's got tons of room inside even with three people, two of them over 6 feet, and all our gear for 18 days of camping and climbing. It's tall enough to stand in (probably a 6'4"-ish ceiling) and easy to set up. Then the wind kicked in. In one night of 30-35 mph winds, the tent went from flapping too loudly to sleep in to buckling all the way to the floor. In that night, the 4 poles broke in a total of 7 places. In addition, the waterproof flaps in the vestibule are inside the screen part, so they just catch water and funnel it on to your gear. It may be a 3-season tent in your backyard in San Diego, but not for real camping.
I have been car camping with this tent for about 5 years now and have no real complaints: we camp close to 15 times a year in all weather conditions. From 95+ degree beach heat to 40 mph (60 gust) thunderstorms to 3 inches of snow I have been truely happy with this tent. The vestibule is huge and there is plenty of room inside the tent for our mattress and all of our gear (just two of us). The rain fly is a bit tricky, and doesn't remove easily for ventilation, but we have never needed it. I paid $280 and it was worth every penny
