The nylon shell gains support and rigidity from your sleeping pad - simply drop in a rolled pad and let it uncoil to push against the bag, and pack your gear inside the roll. It also has nicely padded shoulder straps and a 1.5" webbing hip belt.

I got this pack a few monts ago and have been totally satisfied with it on several trips. On both a five day trip around North Carolina's Linville Gorge and on another five day hike on the AT, this pack held up well. It will only work for you if you are willing to leave behind everything unecessary to a trip. BTW, for a comparable pack by Golite, this pack's suspension is infinitely superior. The material is made to last as well. Those looking for a lightweight pack for longer trips might try something with more padding on it. Bottom Line: for size compared to: the price, bomber construction, and overall comfort, I rate it a four.

I agree with the other review; this pack was a replacement for the GoLite Jam, the Jam being a fine pack for solo overnighters. But the Virga, packed properly with my base weight of 9-10 pounds carries so softly and comfy. I use a BA air core pad as the "framesheet" and pack softer items toward the back. Works for climbing, it’s water resistant and it holds up to the Southwest's gnarly cat claw and cacti. This pack is light enough to stow into a larger pack for use as a daypack or explorer pack. I’m very happy!
