Description of Ground Arete Softshell Jacket - Men's:
When you want to move fast in the backcountry on a windy winter day, pull on the Ground Men’s Arete Softshell Jacket. Ground made the Arete to be highly wind- and water-resistant for comfort in light snowfall and on blustery peaks. A softshell breathes better than those crinkly hardshells, so you won’t overheat as you make your way up a snowy mountain. A soft, fuzzy fleece lining wicks perspiration and traps air heated by your body so you feel dry and warm from ascent to descent.
Bottom Line: A breathable jacket for the winter backcountry.
The Ground Arete Softshell fits perfectly (I'm 6'2, 225 and XL is spot on) and looks okay but, my experience with my Marmot softshell is much more pleasing. I expected more out of a jacket in this priceline. The ends of the sleeves (black part) feature a neoprene-like material that makes the end of the sleeve tight, uncomfortable, and cumbersome (I have larger forearms). I purchased on SAC at $71 - it's way overpriced at $225 (regular price) as it features little to no technology (ie: windstopper, etc). Jacket is made in China. It's heading back.
