I would definantly buy a size up with these pants. They are really slim in the hip/thy region and just for reference I am 6' 2" 160 (aka I've never had this problem before). These pants do a great job of shedding water for extended periods of time and I love the material. If they were a little larger I would only bring these pants on trips because they are real comfortable. i would recommend these pants but buy a size up.
Since I'm 6'4" and 180 lbs. after reading the reviews I decided to go with XL. The length and thigh fit is fine but the elastic waistband is too loose on me. They keep falling down. I'm 37" around the waist and the sizing say's 40" for the XL size. The lack of a drawstring or belt loops or SOMETHING to adjust the waist band is a drawback if you're tall and skinny.
They are a great pant, and they are wonderful in the rain and in cooler temps. Just fine with another layer when it gets below 32. I have the same gripe howeve. They are quite slim fitting. I am a 34X34, and the larges are kinda tight. If I would have known that a year ago I woulda gotten an XL. The length isn't bad, but I could use another inch. All in all I have no regrets about buying them and wear them almost everyday riding bike. I would recommend these to others, but like I said, beware of the size you choose.
