Description of Fischer Porohete 106 Alpine Ski:
Powered by a bombproof wood core that's surprisingly lightweight and nimble, the 106mm-waisted Fischer Porohete Alpine Ski shines in powder and holds its own all over the mountain. This ski is at home in the steep and deep, and the wide waist creates a stable platform for stomping cliffs and skiing fast. The Porohete also has enough sidecut and torsional stiffness to provide solid edge hold on groomers, while the ski’s lightweight gives it surprising agility in the trees and bumps.

Bottom Line: The Fischer Porohete 106s ski like a gentle giants anywhere on the mountain.

Have the ORIGINAL! version called Big Stix 106. They have just survived their- I think -4th or 5th season at Jackson Hole. These skis have seen clifs, rocks, tree stumps galore and are incredibly ready for yet another season! And JH + my abuse testifies to the German quality of these skis. As for performance, well: powder, all versions of crud, tight trees, hard pack groomers, even moguls, they do everything well. The only reservation is they can dive in deep, deep powder and I might get a fatter, softer pair for that kind of stuff, but unless ypou're always heli-skiing it's a minor flaw. I guess much relies on one's style but these fat oafs can turn on a dime in the tightest chutes and trees yet hold the big line on ice, wide open crud or pow.

I rode these last winter in Whistler, Baker, Jackson, Idaho, BC interior. Mostly lifts, some skinning. I am 6'1" 195#. They have held up well, however they are SUPER flexy. Also, despite their 106 waist they like to catch their nose in the pow at speed, esp in crusty situations. Check out how the sidecut comes to a quick shovel towards the tip. Definitely have a speed limit, which turns into a nasty tomahawk. Also, hard to scrub speed as they like to get on an edge instead of smear/slide. Had a lot of fun on em but would not buy them again and I'm REALLY looking forward to getting on something stiffer and better shaped. Maybe a 4FRNT EH 186 or similar.
