Description of Bern Macon Helmet:
The Bern Macon Helmet’s skate-influenced look and hardhat-rated design gives you the low-profile protection you need for just about any water sport (with the exception of golden showers). Inside the lid there’s a soft Brock foam interior that reforms to its original shape after an impact, allowing you to take a few diggers on the water without ditching your brain-bucket. With the winter insert, Bern seems to think you can hit the mountain with the Macon Helmet, but since it’s not actually rated to take an impact on hard surfaces, shred, skate, and bike at your own risk.

Bottom Line: Water-ready protection.

This helmet(?)can't pass any of the standards for the sports the company suggest it should be used for? My kid wanted one and I checked it out. No bike standard, no snowboard standard but its still good for everything... i don't get it. I want him having fun, not drooling in a cup after his next crash.

I actually own a bern brentwood & think bern makes great helmets. I just wanted to leave a comment here related to "anonymous'" posting... you need to be careful- & it's bern's fault for making it confusing. Bern Brentwood is made of zipmold & meets multiple safety standards. Bern Macon (& baker) come in two versions: EPS & Brock foam. EPS version meets all the safety standards but the Brock foam does not. Any Macon or Baker made of Brock foam is/should be labeled "hard hat" & not helmet. So, depending on which version you pick up in the store to try/look at..you may see stickers saying it does meet x standards...or it does not meet x standards. Anyways, don't be too quick on knocking or dismissing this brand/model. Great product, great cust service..just buy the right thing for you.

helmets crack to disperse the impact and keep the energy from reaching your head. if it doesn't crack, how is it doing its job? we can't know - brock foam is not certified and may not properly protect your head. it's up to you to take the risk and Bern definitely leaves it in the user's hands. but bear in mind that having a cracked helmet beats having a cracked skull. i for one will not be trusting any helmet that has not been shown to meet safety standards. because really, what's the point?
