Description of Black Diamond Helion Headlamp:
The Black Diamond Helion Headlamp powers you through the night. Three LEDs offer superb trail and proximity lighting, while a bright Xenon bulb shines a far-reaching beam when you're climbing or cross-country hiking. An Ultem reflector creates a veritable searchlight and provides smooth, even light without rings or spots. Tilt housing and an over-molded battery box offer increased comfort, security, and function. Compact and lightweight, the Helion runs on three AA batteries and is a reliable workhorse-an excellent three-season headlamp for caving and mountain biking. Spare Bright Xenon Bulb included.

Bottom Line: A hardcore light for hardcore pursuits.

Helion Headlamp is OK   01-04-06

It’s built well though somewhat cumbersome. AAA's in the headlamp assembly would be better. The incandescent portion of the lamp does an adequate job while the LED portion leaves something to be desired. The light provided by the LED's is white/blue and casts an odd hue. This is a good unit for close-up work or trail walking. Definitely not a good primary light source due to limits on brightness. Generally speaking, it would be nice if the industry standardized units to lumens in technical specifications of light models. Candlepower and wattage are misleading and confuse consumers.

lightweight and some decent battery life   05-07-05

I have been enjoying this new product. It is really lightweight. I like the fact that you have the brightness of the xenon bulb if you need it, but have the LEDS to rely on for most use. A step up from those super light LED only headlamps without sacrificing serious weight.

Love my Lamp   10-04-06

I have used this lamp on 2 weekend outings so far and I love it. The LEDs are all you need to see to eat, dig in your pack, and collect firewood, and if you need to see things further away the Xenon lamp really brightens up the night. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 is because I don't like having to cycle through Xenon and LED each time, I would to be able to turn them on and off seperately.
