Description of Backcountry.com Overhang Pant - Men's:
Busting through briar patches unscathed and breathing like an angry hippo, the water-resistant and stretchy Backcountry.com Overhang Pant wants to be your go-to trouser for any non-winter endeavor. Don these highly breathable softshell pants whether you’re planning on a long day on the trail or just a short bouldering session at the mouth of the canyon. The Overhang’s 3-D ergonomic fit won’t weigh you down or restrict your movements, and the stretchy softshell material ensures mad dynamism from sketchy highball stems to precarious creek crossings.
Bottom Line: These softshell pants are down for anything.
These Bc pants are my favorite for hiking and bouldering, even in summer weather (below probably 88 degrees or so). They breathe like no other pant I've ever worn, while still holding up to scrapes and bumps against rocks, thorns and branches. Another thing I love about them is how stretchy they are, which makes scrambling up and around boulders much easier. ROCK ON BC!!
If these fit you, they are nice pants for hiking or travel. The pant legs are on the slim side, so if you have athletic quads/thighs, they will be somewhat tight on you. The stretch fabric does avoid binding, though. The zippered cargo pocket is big enough to hold a passport, but not much more.
Just got back from my first official test of the Overhang pant: Crestone Peak, CO. These pants were great in the backcountry. They're very light weight, super breathable, and quite a bit more durable than I suspected at first. Coming down from the summit, there was a lot of scraping my @$$ on the rock of the class 3 gully, but the pants show no signs of wear at all. The material is thin and stretches quite a bit, and they breathed enough for me to stay comfortable on the trip in temps ranging from the mid 40's to the low 80's. The pocket on the right leg was great for easy access to my camera too. Haven't had a chance to see how they shed water yet, but I've been impressed by their dry functionality. I usually wear 32x32 jeans (fitted casually - I'm 5'11, 160 lbs.) and the medium fit great, with just a little bit of wiggle room in the waist. Solid product BC, keep it up.
