And we at Backcountry.com didn't put the Goat logo on the Women's Shift Composite Softshell Jacket until we absolutely knew we'd rely on it for our own backcountry journeys. The Shift Composite uses Polartec Power Shield fabric to block 98 percent of the wind yet lets enough air move that you don't die of heat during your spring ski tour. With four-way stretch and an athletic cut, this water-repellent softshell won't restrict your motions, and it doesn't crinkle and shuffle like hardshells do. An MP3 pocket lets you bring your tunes along on your mountain adventure. At half the cost of a comparable branded jacket, we question your sanity if you don't grab this softshell.

Bottom Line: The versatile Shift Composite covers you in all but the nastiest weather and costs a lot less than those other softshells.
