The Arc'teryx Men's Gamma SV Jacket uses a soft polyester lining to wick moisture while the tough DWR-coated softshell exterior battles the outside weather. High hand pockets allow access to your on-the-trail snacks, even when you wear a climbing harness or backpack over the Gamma SV Jacket. Bottom Line: Thanks to incredibly versatile materials, the Arc'teryx Gamma SV Jacket gets the job done in a wide range of conditions.
This has quickly become my favorite "go to" jacket. It is the one I always want to have with me. The Polartec Power Shield has good breathability and easily sheds light to moderate rain. I love the fleece lining on the inside of the jacket as well. It's like they took a 100wt fleece and bonded it to the powershield. The hand pockets are nice and large and fleece lined. Nice touch! The only area of improvement I could recommend would be the addition of a hood and a bicep pocket like the Gamma MX. I used to scoff at the high price of Arcteryx products, but you really do get what you pay for.
The Gamma series used to be one of the best softshells jackets around. Until Arc'teryx in their crafty acts decided to move production to China (surprise, surprise?). They not only brought the overrall quality of this jacket down but by just looking at it, it just seems another piece of The North Face branded jacket. The sewing and stitching lines are not as well done as before and from already comparing several different gammas I can tell that many of them don't have the quality consistency as before. The outer shell is softer and much more prone to snagging than the older models too. Thankfully, Arc'teryx didn't change one thing about this jacket. The Price. For that price either Arc'teryx brings production back to Canada or SIGNIFICANTLY lower the price to reflect their much lower production costs.
Acteryx quality is still unmatched by others, hands down. This guy must be a rep for some other company. I own the Gamma SV and it is a killer jacket. Very very water-resistant and it is super warm. It's great on the slopes or on the town. You will not be disappointed by the superior quality that Arc'teryx is known for, look it up. Don't let the previous review fool you. Act'teryx is the real deal.
