Description of Arc'teryx Scorpion Ski Jacket - Men's:
The Arc'teryx Men's Scorpion Ski Jacket uses Gore-Tex Soft Shell High Loft material to provide the extra breathability you need for charging hard on the mountain. The Scorpion Jacket's waterproof breathable exterior is surprisingly soft, and its lofty fleece liner keeps you toasty on cold January mornings waiting for first chair. Underarm zips provide this Arc'teryx jacket with extra ventilation for warmer days, and the Recco reflector provides a little extra measure of safety at the resort.
Bottom Line: Ski harder and sweat less when you're in the Arc'teryx Scorpion Jacket.
Great jacket. Also have the Sidewinder AR. I wear the sidewinder on warmer ski days. The Scorpion has slightly more substance, due to the microfleece layer inside (but I would still consider this a shell). Only minor drawback compared to the sidewinder is that the fleece on the sleeves makes it a little bit tougher to get your arms through (more friction). But that's a minor complaint. I like the straight front zipper better than the sidewinder's side zip. Fit and construction are perfect. Hood is awesome over a helmet. If you layer right, you can wear this under pretty much ANY conditions. I've worn it in sub zero wind chill, blizzard snow, freezing rain, etc. Nothing gets through. I considered getting a heavier down-insulated ski jacket for those ultra cold days on top of the mountain, but I've find the Scorpion will do just fine with layers.
I will be the first to admit I own a few too many Arcteryx Jackets, but this one is my current fav. Solid construction and great styling bring it all together. This jacket feels bomber. I am not worried when I am bombing through trees that a little branch will reach out and tear it up. The materials are solid and effective. All that being said, I was surprised by the weight. For something as robust as it is, it is not overly heavy. I find it a little long in the torso, but mainly because I am really, really short (5'5"). I would recommend this jacket for mainly resort skiing, if you are looking for something tele/BC/AT related, there are some lighter and more breathable shells out there. Overall, if you are lapping the back bowls and want a jacket that looks good and keeps you climate controlled while doing it, this is for you.
