Description of Arc'teryx Gamma MX Jacket - Women's:
The Arc'teryx Women's Gamma MX Jacket is the softshell to end all softshells. This jacket has been awarded by Climbing Magazine and the Polartec Apex Awards due to its all-weather versatility and enlightened design. The Women’s Gamma MX Jacket uses seamless, gusseted underarms to eliminate bulk and provide a trim and flattering fit. This unique fit lets you enjoy unparalleled freedom of movement for climbing, hiking, or ski touring. The jacket’s seam design contours a woman’s shape and stretches liberally to maximize mobility. The jacket’s Polartec Powershield material feels fuzzy on the inside and helps draw perspiration away. The material’s smooth exterior resists wind and water so you can stay outside longer and much more comfortably. Sleek pockets on the chest and arm hold little necessities you like to keep on-hand.
Bottom Line: The queen of all softshells: fleecy soft, with wicked-good protection.
This jacket proved to be worth the dinero. The woman was well protected from the elements at all altitudes on our journey to Switzerland. Wind, wet, snow, it made no difference with this garment. My men's version functioned with the same results, 'Outstanding'.
This is a great softshell, but I've worn it like twice. In the NW, a rain jacket or down jacket always seems to be a better choice. Maybe by spring time this will come out of the closet more, but the conditions are not the best here for this type of jacket. Would recommend for a warmer climate since the jacket is very thin and not really warm.
My boyfriend bought me the XS in aloe as a gift, and I wear it a lot. I'm tall and it has a nice trim fit without being constricting or having extra fabric around the arms or body, so it's perfect for hiking and running. The pockets are super handy. It's also become a go-to jog-to-the-gym jacket in the cooler months--no bulky coat to haul around, secure pockets for my stuff (though I keep a close eye on it so it doesn't get snatched up!)
